choices that says "private messages".

No, it definitely wasn't or hasn't been. We owners didn't even notice
to check it, because we relied on the text on the main page.

The Home page list of settings ought to be consistent with the group's actual settings, anything else would be a bug. Or possibly a stale web cache of the Home page somehow.

Yes, I meant only the message archive. It was visible for non-members,
fortunately a member alerted about this.

That would be consistent with it still being set to "public".

But the problem was the original incorrect message on the main page,
which led us to believe, that the messages were protected.

Right. I wish I could think of a way to reproduce this problem so as to make a solid report to [email protected]. I think one would need to create a new test group to check it.
