And yes, with my new io group, I do have a response sent to them as a
pending member. But do I have to give my email to all pending
members?? At least Yahoo has an "Owner email" to use that protects the
privacy of my email.

Groups.io does as well - it is listed on your group's home page with the other group email addresses.

There are two differences versus Yahoo Groups, one trivial the other less so.

The trivial difference is that it is spelled groupname+owner rather than groupname-owner.

The less trivial difference is that you have (each mod and owner has) a setting in your Subscription page that controls whether +owner messages are forwarded to you. You can choose "All Emails" (which is the same as Y!Groups function), "Subscribers Only" or "None".

I generally recommend that at least one owner or mod in each group accept +owner messages from "All Emails" - just so that pending members and others trying to join the group can reach someone.
