Re: Testing G1 encoder port

From Gemini-1 manual:
?
?
You can use the ASCOM driver terminal window to get the encoder port status bits using command <312:
You'll want to drive each of the encoder lines high (5v TTL) and then get the <312 status. Each line should result in a bit being flipped. I believe you'll need to enable the encoder port through the HC menus, first.

Testing G1 encoder port

开云体育

I’m being sent a G1 to fix that is being used with a G11 which I believe to have DSCH encoders fitted.

?

Is there any easy way to test the encoder port without access to the mount?

The GM811G is like the G11T.? ?It is a way to get a little more payload capacity without making the full jump to the next bigger mount. A little more payload for a little less than the full price of the next bigger Losmandy mount.?
?
So like a G11T which is is a regular G11G DEC section bolted to a regular Titan RA section.? The GM811G is a GM8G DEC section bolted to a G11G RA section.?
?
That's what the.idea is but the cost is higher on a per payload pound for the payload increase.? But the configured? mount may be just enough to get the payload you need with reduced weight and cost.? But that's something only the buyer can decide.??

Re: Boot problems with Ascom 7.0.2 and Nina 3.1Hf2???

Thanks for the answers Paul.
I've been having problems with the G8/11 for a while now and I'm feeling a bit frustrated. It's probably due to a lack of knowledge about the mount. I just can't seem to find the right key.
I work with Nina and for example when I try to park the mount or move/center/rotate it, it moves a little and stops without reaching the target and then it gets blocked. I have changed cables, the Gemini 2 battery, I make sure that the Gemini time matches that of the PC, correct location coordinates, correct camera parameters, etc. I have read in some forum that the DEC axis of this mount usually gives problems. Any idea what could be happening to me?

I don't see anything in the screen shots that could cause this problem. Also, between version 1.1.25 and 1.1.28 of the driver there were only two changes, and these should have no effect on the ability to connect to Gemini.
?
Here are the release notes:
Version 1.1.28 - release
------------------------
2024-09-09 Fix for AtHome not updating when the mount is unparked
2024-07-21 fix for NINA time not matching with PC time warning message on start-up
?
If version 1.1.25 is working for you, then I'd just continue to use that version. There was no change that could help with guiding between v1.1.25 and v1.1.28.

Re: Boot problems with Ascom 7.0.2 and Nina 3.1Hf2???

I doubt the problem is with the ASCOM platform -- it doesn't have anything to do with the connection to Gemini. The ASCOM driver does, and I believe you didn't change driver version, correct?
?
Instead of connecting from NINA, try going directly to the Gemini.NET ASCOM driver hand-controller interface, and try to connect from there. If that doesn't work, you'll need to troubleshoot the connection to Gemini and the communication settings in the ASCOM driver.

When connecting the mount I get a no connection message. After it is connected. But it hasn't really connected, because it doesn't move the mount when you tell it to go to a certain object. I have changed the USB cable, connection port, etc. Nothing, the mount doesn't move. Where could the problem be??? Thanks

Re: Boot problems with Ascom 7.0.2 and Nina 3.1Hf2???

The version of Ascom that I have installed is 7.02. I understand that the fix that Paul Kavansky says was made in 7.01. Is it like that?

Re: Boot problems with Ascom 7.0.2 and Nina 3.1Hf2???

I believe that this is an ASVOM issue Paul Kavansky wrote in Gemini ASCOM Forum this following?
?

The ASCOM team released Update 1 to Platform 7. This includes the fix for Gemini driver not being selectable from 32-bit client apps using ASCOM Chooser. Please test. For now, this is available for download from GitHub:

?

(download?AscomPlatform701.4630.exe from Assets section on that page)

?

This will be posted to the main ASCOM website later today.

?
So might be best to read this on Gemini ASCOM forum

Maybe don't blame the well tested and proven Gemini.net ASCOM driver?? Could you try a different app to GOTO?? Maybe Stellarium or other popular? planetarium app?? I have been using the Gemini.net ASCOM with other apps like SGP, NINA and ASIAIR and GOTOs are perfectly fine.?

Re: Error Gemini2

It's saying your computer was unable to connect to the serial port that Gemini was configured for. That could be as simple as the serial cable is unplugged, or Gemini is not powered on. Other things to check is that in your PC, open the Device Manager and check to see if the serial port you are using is reporting any errors. You probably are using a USB-to-Serial converter so it is also possible that failed; try a different one if you have one.
?
One other suggestion: if you are using a Gemini-2, you may find it easier to connect with a network cable instead of serial. There are instructions around that explain how to do that, even if your PC isn't on a LAN.
?
Good luck (I hope this translates cleanly to French for you; my French is no where good enough to try to write the above),

Re: Gemini L4 issue

Well, shoot, I didn't even get to weigh in :-)
?
Of course, I didn't need to, I had all the same suggestions as others had posted.? With my antique Gemini I I've found a bad conductor in the cable between the Gemini unit and the hand paddle, and I've had bad encoders in, coincidentally, my declination motor.? Of course, verifying your cables are correctly installed and swapping cables are the easy things to check first.? Glad your mount is working properly again.

Problem solved, found a broken wire in the DEC motor cable, soldered it back and everything's working fine now.

Hi Paulo,

?

First thing I’d check is to make sure the motors are connected correctly. Maybe Dec is connected to RA and so Dec is trying to “track” the sky.

?

If not the problem then some troubleshooting is in order. Try swapping the cables first and see if the problem persists or moves to the other motor. Then try swapping the motors and see if the problem stays with the motor or the axis.

?

After these tests report back and we can go from there.

?

Good luck

?
