Re: Losmandy GM8 Gemini 1 and ASIAIR+
?
The FTDI I/O chip is the gold standard which is why there are so many fake FTDI chips in the market stream and why I recommend buying a converter from a supplier that only uses authentic FTDI chips not FTDI spec or illegal clone copies.? There was a huge issue years ago where Chinese cloners made a zillion copies of the FTDI USB chips so FTDI altered their chips code to make cloning them harder.? This made about a zillion people unhappy when their cloned FTDI devices failed to work.? This issue may be history but there are still about half a zillion of these fake converters out there in the marketplace.? Buy from a known good maker and seller that uses authentic chips.??

Fully agree on using FTDI chipset -- historically these have been more compatible and stable converters for use with Gemini.

Re: Losmandy GM8 Gemini 1 and ASIAIR+
Digikey has a good range of adapter USB to RS232 like:
?
uses FT232L chipset (FTDI) $18
?
FTDI
UT232R-200 another FTDI DEVICE $34?
?
My favourite another FTDI Chip 10 $21
https://www.digikey.com.au/en/products/detail/ftdi-future-technology-devices-international-ltd/UC232R-10/1836392
?
Digikey gives free delivery if order over $60 AUD.?
?
Here are dons more but I do like FTDI chipset converters. Their compatibility unmatched. ?
Below is Digikey line up of these RS232 To USB.? ?
Mouser also sell them. ? Buy from known sources as many converter chips are cheap copies. ?
This shows G1 and G2 Rs232 cable wiring. ?They are not the same.?
?
Also you haven¡¯t yet checked that your G1 RS232 IC is working. ?I¡¯d suspect that before replacing cables. ? See Gemini 1 FAQs?
?
In cases like this it¡¯s best to try run the Gemini using your cables and Gemini ASCOM to ensure the Gemini RS232 IC is ok. ? ?They have been known to go bad. ? It just simplifies it all. ?Trying to fix a bad IC by replacing cables does nothing but make confusion.?
Try this, G1/Gemini ?ASCOM connection via USB/RS232 and get back to us if it works. ?We can advise from there. ??
?
Cheers

Half the time these inexpensive USB converters are the problem.? This is why you want to buy one that is known to work with the Gemini 1.? Google ATEN UC232A, these are known to work correctly when cabled with the Losmandy Gemini 1 RJ connector to DB9 RS233 connector.? Not the cheapest but a known to work solution.?

Re: Losmandy GM8 Gemini 1 and ASIAIR+

As Brendan suggests it is best to establish that the Gemini 1 RS233 port is working by connecting to a PC via USB to RS233 converter cable before trying to connect to anything else. Connecting to a PC is a lot easier because this is a well understood process and will confirm that the Gemini-1's RS233 port works.?
?
Until you establish the fact that you have a working USB connection with a PC using a known good USB to RS232 converter and cable you will be banging you head and ours against a wall without any significant hope of success.??

This is incorrect.? ASIAIR has always worked with non ZWO mounts even before there were ZWO mounts using either Ethernet or USB I/O ports.?

?
take a step back ¡¡use Gemini ASCOM try connect using it and Gemini.?
/g/Gemini_ASCOM_Driver if doesn¡¯t work ¡..you probably have a bad Gemini Rs232 IC. ?
if it does¡..well I¡¯m not sure get back on trying Gemini ASCOM first. ?It should show up in com port config under device manager

Re: RTC issue with Gemini 1
Annnd I should have said check battery voltage is getting to the SRAM/RTC thru D1.?
?
?
Maybe check diode D1 with ohmmeter on diode function. ? Check it switches ok to around 4.9V dc ~minimum ?at SRAM/RTC at same point mentioned above when system powered on!
?
Sorry just brain storming ¡.my thoughts are all over the place line a dogs back leg!
