Re: Navigating the Gemini I hand control.

If you look in the Appendices in the PDF of the manual, you'll see the whole menu structure documented starting on page 92:

Navigating the Gemini I hand control.

Has anyone found a block diagram to simulate your way around the Gemini I Level 4 controller? I do have the manual printed out, but it's a bit clunky. Could just be me.
1,000 Thanks!?

Version 1.1.25 of Gemini.NET ASCOM driver available

Folks,

A new version of the ASCOM driver that fixes some timeout issues related to PEC and PEMPro programming for L4 Gemini-1, and increases timeouts for most serial communications is now available:

* Enable solar system objects selection from Objects + Coordinates screen (L6 and later)
* Add a window to select one of multiple observations from Small and Solar System Objects
* Fix for PEMPro + PEC programming for Gemini-1 L4 timeout errors
* Increased timeouts for serial comms for L4 and later
* Fix worm cycle display in PEC window for Gemini-1 L4
* Additional statistics and frequency display in PEC Chart window

That worked!? I have said it before, but I have to say it again - you are a star!!!!!? Persistently great support for which I am so grateful...

It weill be interesting to see if that resolves com port and timeout errors when in normal NINA session too...

Ray - thanks for your help too!

Hi Mark,

Excellent! Thanks for reporting and helping to troubleshoot. While the main fix related to PEC programming is not likely to help with NINA timeouts, I did take the opportunity to increase some serial timeouts that might just help. Let me know what you find.

I'll do some more testing with this version of the driver to make sure I didn't break anything related to Gemini-2, and then release it as an update to Gemini.NET to others. Ray will be posting PEMPro version 3.10.07 as the latest from his side.

Re: Gemini 1 L4 Issues loading PEC Curve from PemPro 3

Hi Mark,

Please test the following updates to the fix the timeout problem, the ASCOM driver (v1.1.25) and PEMPro (v3.10.07):

ASCOM driver:
/g/Gemini_users/files/Gemini.net%20ASCOM%20Driver/GeminiTelescopeInstaller%281.1.25.0%29.exe

PEMPro:

Please let us know how it goes, and upload driver logs and PEMPro logs if anything still doesn't work, along with the details of what happened.

Regards,

? -Paul

Hi Mark, just wanted to let you know I didn't forget about this. I've spent some time trying to duplicate this, and I believe I may understand the issue. I'll need a little more time to do more testing, and I'll need your help to test a new version of the ASCOM driver once it's ready. I believe the problem was caused by different handling of a command used to program PEC between L4 and L5+6. I'll post a download link for you try, hopefully very soon.

Hi Mark,

?

Maybe you missed my previous post, but can you please use the PEMPro Log Zipper application to grab all of the log files from the last 15 days?

?

Here are screenshots of what you need to do:

Attach the zip file to a post here.

Hi Ray, that's not clear, but that's the issue I had trying to upload or download a PEC curve here while trying to reproduce Mark's result. I'll try his PEC curve next to see if can reproduce the comm errors.?

Ray -- one problem I see is that regardless of what Gemini or the ASCOM driver are configured to for PECMax
(usually 6400 steps for Gemini-1/G11), PEMPro tries to retrieve or program 2x the worm cycle, or 12800 steps.
Can you please check why? Here's an example, only 6400 steps were programmed in PEC, but PEMPro retrieves
this, apparently thinking this is a 2x worm cycle recording:

Re: Gemini 1 L4 not driving motors

Thanks to your advice, Paul, and a very helpful email from Michael Herman, I have identified the problem. The Gemini was starting up in a mode where it would not respond to the buttons, even when held simultaneously which usually enables quick slewing. After I cold started again and toggled the guiding mode, it has recovered. All now seems to be well.

Thank you for your help.

David

David, if you¡¯re basing this on the fact that you can¡¯t hear the motor moving, then you¡¯re most likely mistaken. The motor moves very quietly and you will not see the motion until you switch the HC to slew speeds.

I have now been able to try a second identical hand controller and the behaviour is the same. So it doesn't look like a problem with the controller, more likely in the Gemini itself.

Okay, I should have looked at the screenshot before sending! J ?The worm period is not calculated correctly when less than the total number of cells is used.

Re: Gemini 1 L4 not driving motors

That sounds like you just have the mount set to Guide mode. When moving at Sidereal or at guide rate, you¡¯re not going to hear the motor. You need to get to at least centering speed or slew speed.?

Re: Gemini 1 L4 not driving motors

Hi Paul,

Thanks for replying. After displaying Sidereal Mode on the controller, the screen goes blank. When you press any tracking buttons, either in RA or Dec, there is no message on the controller, the screen remains completely blank and there is no sound from either motor. However, when you issue a GoTo command on the controller, the mount starts driving the scope. All the other functions on the hand controller seem to work including setting the home position and driving the scope to the home position after it moved. As there was a CMOS reset with the battery change, there is no pointing model.

The maximum possible worm cycles are calculated by taking the total number of cells(command 503) and dividing it by the multiple of spur gear ratio(command 23) times RA encoder resolution(command 25). The user can control the actual number of worm cycles of the PEC curve when creating a curve.

You can change the number of worm cycles displayed in the graph with the up/down arrow for "Graph Worm Cycles".

If this is not what you are asking, let me know.
