Hi David, do you get any messages on the controller? Stall messages, heavy lag tr messages? Do the motors work when you do a Goto or use HC buttons to slew? Did you try swapping between RA and DEC? Swapping Cables? If you remove the RA motor off the mount and watch it when you start up in Sidereal tracking mode, can you see it turning??

Re: Gemini 1 L4 Issues loading PEC Curve from PemPro 3

Edited

Ray -- one problem I see is that regardless of what Gemini or the ASCOM driver are configured to for PECMax (usually 6400 steps for Gemini-1/G11), PEMPro tries to retrieve or program 2x the worm cycle, or 12800 steps. Can you please check why? Here's an example, only 6400 steps were programmed in PEC, but PEMPro retrieves this, apparently thinking this is a 2x worm cycle recording:

This is what it should look like:

Re: Gemini 1 L4 Issues loading PEC Curve from PemPro 3

Hi Ray,?

That would be my first guess is that something is being set or used as if this is a Gemini-2 L6 mount. After a quick check, I don't see anything obvious, though.

Mark -- can you please share a PEMPro .ppc or captured data? .txt file you use for the curve upload? I can try to reproduce the steps here to see if I get the same errors.

Hi Mark,

Perhaps the error is that PEMPro is sending a command that the earlier control boxes don't understand.

Please use the PEMPro Log zipper on each computer and have it zip the Debug logs for the last 14 days. Attach both zip files (one from each computer) to a post here.

Thanks Paul. Just to let you know, yesterday I swapped out the PC for an older slower one with just pempro and
Gemini latest version loaded. Got exactly the same results. So that is 4 converters, 3 cables, 2 PCs and 2 control
panels. Really weird!

Re: Software for Gemini II

For the most part, most (if not all) software that works for G1 also works for G2. For me, I¡¯ve been using N.I.N.A. for a while and can highly recommend it and others have used APT, sharpcap etc. Steallarium is also a good choice for planetarium, but I¡¯ve seen others use carts du ciel and sky safary.?

you can use the ASIAir, a Raspberry pi or a windows based minicomputer to control the mount, or use a laptop with USB or even ethernet directly or through a router.

Options to control the mount are very flexible and varied so have fun deciding what you want and how to implement it :)

Re: Software for Gemini II

What do you want the new software to do?

For a planetarium app I have been using Sky Safari 7 Pro connected to the Gemini 2 using a nano router for many years. It's an excellent combo.?

Re: ASI Air

With a Gemini 2 and full L6 firmware the ASIAIR works very well and is very reliable. GOTOs.using plate solving is brilliant and tracking while autoguiding is excellent and reliable.?

There is a minor issue with the ASIAIR software for what they call their Park command. The Gemini "Park" command means a very certain thing but the ASIAIR doesn't know the difference between HOME and PARK so the ASIAIR Park command completes but times out with no finishing message.?

Other than this it works great.?

Thank you.

I think I might buy one.

Re: ASI Air

Yes. ?You¡¯ll need to do an alignment on the Gemini II, even if it¡¯s a ¡°fake¡± one. ?Works well, but occasionally I find that it doesn¡¯t go home after an imaging session. ?It¡¯s very infrequent so I am assuming it¡¯s something I missed in the setup process.

Software for Gemini II

I recently purchased the upgrade from Gemini I to Gemini 2. I have watched most of the videos on the Losmandy site. I saw a couple of references to software such as Stellarium. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Thank you

Re: ASI Air

Hi Paul,

plenty of people use these mounts with the Air so yes, they¡¯re compatible

Re: Gemini 1 L4 Issues loading PEC Curve from PemPro 3

Oh - well spotted - I had missed that.? I run Dimension 4 to keep the PC time real just in case I do any exo planet measurements - it may have caused the issue as it impact the PC time but not the Gemini time.? I haven't done any exoplanet stuff for ages so can jsut disable that from running and resyn the times.

Brendan

Actually - good point.? I have tried to slow it down but connections reverts back to 9600.? I'll try that...? ?Have 3 FTDI usb to serial cables, all new'ish so thanks for the offer...

Re: Gemini 1 L4 Issues loading PEC Curve from PemPro 3

Ray

Yes - tried all available ports.? Serial cable (DB9 to RS232 4p4c) is 2 foot long, untwisted pair cable but also unshielded.? The FTDI to USB are all very short too (I have 3 of them, plus now an ATEN version.? Thanks fo the advice - but still perplexed!? Tomorrow I have the morning clear will will try a completely separate PC with just the gemini and pempro software installed....

Re: Gemini 1 L4 Issues loading PEC Curve from PemPro 3

I noticed what looks to me like an odd valued (arbitrary)TOD difference between computer and Gemini in your Ascom logs.?
Not sure if this would impact what you're trying to do,? but wanted to be sure you're aware of it. The comms on com9 in the second log look normal, not knowing what you are doing at any particular moment. It didn't look like a cable or transceiver issue.?
I'd fix the time sync and try whatever your doing again as it might cause unusual problems.
Just my 2c.

ASI Air

Hi gang,

Is the ASI Air compatible with Gemini II please.
