Alright gents... It seems my G11 (circa 2007) is a little sensitive when working with the ASI Air Pro (AAP). I've thumped my head enough on the proverbial wall many - many times. Thinking it's time to ask the pros.
Here's the setup: Gemini 1 Lvl4 v1.05, recently changed the Eprom per Michael Herman's advice. Mounted on heavy duty tripod. The rig isn't taken down. Hand controller is not connected.? ASI Air Pro (not plus), version 1.8(8.83). ASI 120mini guide cam, ASI 294MC main. External motors (servo I think).
Symptom: Go-To works fine on first object, then completely misses following objects.
Example:?during last use- let's call them nights one and two, I had no issues. PA was fast and easy. Plate solving was nice and smooth. Error free Go-To with target on center. Even slewed to and photographed Comet Leonard before it descended. Enjoyed three targets afterwards...Ahh life is GOOD :)
Then, on night three the uglies showed up. Followed the same process of turning on the system and had issues from the jump. PA was fussy, plate solving seemed to lock up, then this- Go-To the first object was ok but not great. Go-To second object was WAAYYY off (pointing down). The misdirected OTA happened consistently. Half a dozen times before I had to shut down.?
I ran through the setup a few times with basically the same result. I even tried "sneaking up" on the object (Jupiter in western sky, then eventually down to Leonard). No luck. BUT...I did note that movements Eastward (starting from NCP) seemed to be the culprit. It nailed M45(once) but didn't want to see, Capella, M42 or Jupiter. All of these targets yielded a downfacing OTA.
The only thing that seemed to work was to point my scope west after polar alignment. In my case Vega, then Jupiter, then Formalhaut. All seemed to be much closer, however I couldn't confirm since the clouds rolled in. Lens location seemed much more acceptable though.
The AAP displays my mount as?"Losmandy Gemini"?on the drop-down menu. No problems syncing and controlling mount via Gemini 1 serial port using?ATEN UC232A. It's actually REALLY nice...when it works.?
Possible causes: settings, meridian flip, firmware??
Q: Did I just get lucky the first couple of nights when she ran flawless? Any advice on this one? Is AAP compatible with my system??
Thanks,
Nick
