I wasn't aware that the camera direct connection would be using the ST-4 protocol/method. Thanks for the heads-up on that, and yes, I'd prefer to make it as simple as possible, at least to start with. So, that means that I use Michael Herman's method, which ignores the use of the guider output port, and uses PHD2 to send instructions to the 'scope/Gemini-1 via Gemini Telescope.NET (ASCOM)/RS232 port. If this is right, then PHD2 is using the pulse method/protocol. (Michael's very extensive instructions does show a lot of useful info about the 'scope's alignment and its tracking/guiding behaviour.
