Inaccurate pointing after 4 star model building
9
Hi, Folks, I have a Losmandy GM8G using the Gemini II with the latest firmware update. I am using the polar scope and drift alignment only. After a 4 star model building, I instructed the Gemini II to point to M42. However, the pointing was off by about 2 degrees. The only thing I can think of is that all of the stars I used in the model building were in the northern celestial hemisphere and M42 is in the southern celestial hemisphere. Am I correct or am I doing something wrong? Any feedback would be appreciated. My procedure is to use the polar scope for initial polar alignment, then do a drift alignment. After that I turn off the mount, go back to pointing North/counterweight down position, turn the mount on again and do the model building. I am manually entering in my position and time. By the way, does anyone have a good reference for drift alignment technique? Any ideas would be appreciated. Best Wishes and clear skies, Russ

Meridian Flip
13
I continue to have difficulties getting a Meridian flip with the mount and AsiAir. I've tried numerous options but to no avail. I finally got access to the mount via my Mac and noticed that are two boxes unchecked in the safety limit section. Can someone have a look at the attached and advise? Thanks

Hand Control switched RA and DEC
3
Hi, group, I'm hoping this has been solved before. I was trying to track on the sun. During the process I realized that to correct for the sun's drift in time I had to use the dec button on the hand control. I assume I'm not the first to experience this. I'm hoping this is a battery problem. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tim. I checked the basics, I was using the AC power supply. 1. Time in the Hand Control was wrong on startup and was corrected. 2. The UTC time zone was wrong on start up and was corrected. 3. the site's Longitude and Latitude was correct on start up.

Constant Beep?
8
Had my rig out last night and frost stuck to just about everything. I was waiting for the melt and evaporation this morning as it warmed back up before covering. My Gemini 2 is now holding a constant beep when powered on despite power cycles / unplugging / waiting / etc - this can't be good I'm sure. Quite possible but not evident if any water dripped from the frost melting. Any advice?

Another G11G/Gemini2 L6 question for a PHD2 dummy
5
I'm running a 2020 G11G with a C11 and as equipped there is 43 pounds of counterweight. Since it's balanced I'm assuming the equipment load is the same, plus or minus a couple pounds. This is about 75% of capacity and should be acceptable for EAA. With L5 the guiding was not great and typically less than 1.0" RMS but always around 0.8". With L6 I had a couple of nights with 0.6" to 0.8" RMS and then lately it's jumped up to 1.0" and even 1.2". I'm also getting some occasional excursions beyond 1.5". I'm running the C11 at f/7.4 and using an AT72EDII for a guide scope (432mm) with an ASI290MM camera. For Gemini2 mount control I'm running SharpCap and Stellarium, both of which have always worked well. I leave the HC connected just in case I need to stop a slew when I'm at the mount but don't use it otherwise. Other than using the PHD2 wizard I'm not knowledgeable on how to optimize settings for this kit. I'm also not going to do any PEC analysis or programming. What are the settings I should check and what are typical settings for a kit like mine? Are there recommended workflow steps I should follow once I slew to a new target and initiate guiding?

Gemini will point in the complete wrong direction
42
I am at a complete loss. I will boot up my gemini II. connect to my pc with the gemini ascom driver, and try to slew to a target to image. Rather than slewing to the correct part of the sky (scope pointing east) it will point west and at the ground. I get no errors, I have changed nothing in my settings. My PC has not changed or updated. This will happen about 50% of the time. I have changed batteries and have checked the power supply. There is no rhym or reason to this. Also when trying to calibrate PHD2 with callibration assist I try to calibrate with the scope on west side of pier point east. Irregardless of what option I select in the calibration assist screen the scope will slew to the west side of the pier (as if it did a meridian flip) and try to calibrate there. I have to turn the mount off, unplug all the connectors, and restart my pc multiple times to fix this problem. Some times it only stops when I turn everything off for hours at a time and reboot. This started happening after my L6 update. And to address some thoughts: My location is accurate with Longitude and Latitude My location, date/time are all accurate each time I boot up My location in NINA/PC is accurate and matches my scope. When it starts working it slews appropriately callibrates well, and does a routine perfectly. Unfortunately that is less than 50% of the time. I have no logs as I'm getting no errors.

Very cold weather tracking problem
11
I have searched here for "COLD WEATHER TRACKING PROBLEMS" without any success. Here in Maryland the weather has been as low as 4 deg F and in teens at night - rare for us. I have a G11 remotely controlled in roro observatory. I'm getting stall notices first in RA and the next night in RA and DEC. I tried adjusting the worm gears and still had the same issue which I have never had in the past 9 years. Electrical supply is very robust. Balance hasn't changed that I can tell. Maybe time to upgrade motors...? Any thoughts or ideas would be most appreciated. Oh these cold dry nights are awesome for us here in the Free State. Thanks, Bob

G11T & NINA 3pt Polar Align
G11T w/Gemini 2, new since last May, permanenty mounted on pier. I wanted to check PA last night in NINA. It moved to the first position then almost froze, I think went to tracking speed. When I checked it a couple of months ago it worked fine. Did a setting change since then? Thanks, Frank Coster

Tracking stops
9
I've been having problems with the mount (GM811G) stopping tracking (or not starting?) after a slew or plate solve. This has happened many times (seen it in 30 imaging sessions?). Problems usually follow a meridian flip. Interesting that slews and plate solves at the beginning of an imaging session are seldom impacted. And it does not happen all the time with meridian flips -- I see it for about half the autofocus runs which occur after a meridian flip and for about a quarter of the plate solves (which occur after the autofocus). I am using NINA to control the imaging session and NINA is commanding the slews and plate solves. Tracking failures are easy to spot -- seeing star trails in the images NINA is displaying. My usual solution to the problem is to toggle tracking off and then on again using the Gemini controller (on the PC, not using the hand controller). Note that the tracking box on Gemini shows tracking to be on -- even if I know that it is off. I am wondering if NINA and Gemini are having issues with each trying to control the pause after a slew. Gemini has a control for this: "Slew Settle Time" and NINA has a control for this: "Settle Time After Slew". How should these parms be set? Use NINA or use Gemini? I would assume that Gemini parameter should be less than the NINA parameter -- if the other way around NINA would start issuing commands and the mount might ignore them since it was paused. I have a full Gemini troubleshooting log from my previous imaging session where the problem occurred three times. Any helpful advice? I can provide the logs if requested. Thanks -- Jim

Gemini Telescope and Firecapture question
5
Been using my G11/C11 setup for DSO with NINA for a couple years. A few months ago I changed com from USB to Ethernet to connect to the G11. Works great. Now I'm doing planetary with FireCapture. As you all know it is difficult to get a planet centered for imaging. I can't seem to open the Gemini Telescope software control while FireCapture is open. It errors. If I close FC, Gemini Telescope will connect right up. Note: Once the planet is centered, FC can center and track it just fine. I'd like to be able to Find and Center the planet with the Gemini software control. Is it possible to do this ? I'm trying to do as much of this remotely from in the house, as the temp is in the teens here at night. Also I have seen on some YouTube videos that EQMOD has a Spiral Search feature for finding an object, like a planet. Does Gemini Telescope have anything like this ? Gary

PDEC out of range errors
15
Hi, Last night I was trying to park the mount and I kept getting "PDEC out of range" errors popping up from the ASCOM Gemini driver. The mount wouldn't park so I turned it off and will level it today. Any thoughts on this error as I have not seen it before and I only saw one other reference in a groups.io thread. I have the latest firmware and ASCOM driver (GeminiTelescope) installed? As I have recently had some issues that I ended up thinking was a lan cable, I am kinda guessing this may be related to a faulty DEC cable or connection. Any triage thoughts appreciated. Ken

Mac & Gemini 2 connection

Hello everyone, I'm trying to connect my Mac to my Gemini 2 via the Ethernet connection (and an adapter to connect to the Mac). Unfortunately when I use the IP address of the Gemini, nothing happens and cannot connect to the Gemini. Anyone out there with some suggestions? Thanks

Tracking in Dec?
Last night I found my G11T tracking in Dec! Is it even possible to ask for that via serial commands? I looked at web interface and took the screenshot after I initiated parking. I believe it was doing the same during imaging session too, though I have no hard proofs. I saw unusual drift in Dec that was mitigated by guiding with some difficulties. I was packing up due to weather so I was not inclined to look around for more insights unfortunately. The mount was up for multiple days in a row, parked during daytime. I did not notice any funny drifts previous nights. I did not change any Gemini settings for long time, it was just another regular night. I use KStars to control the mount. I restart it every evening to get a clean new session. I do not remember doing anything unusual there too. Gemini was updated a couple months ago to then latest 6 build (6.02?). KStars is 3.7.4 and INDI drivers are 2.1.1 latest releases.

ASCOM not connecting to mount
4
Greetings all, I am very hopeful I can find some assistance or suggestions with getting ASCOM and PHD2 connected to my G11 mount. I have Gemini 2 L5 2.1 and I'm connecting through USB on a Windows 11 computer. I downloaded and installed ASCOM platform 7.0.2 (current version) followed by Gemini.NET drivers v1.1.28 (also current) When I run the Gemini.NET plugin I am able to connect with the mount just fine, but when I try ASCOM Device Hub or PHD2 they can't connect. In ASCOM Device Hub, when I click on "Connect Telescope" it gives me a message saying "Telescope Connection Error: Unable to create the telescope object. Object reference not set to an instance of an object." When I go to Tools > Setup > Telescope Setup, click "choose" under Telescope Device, and try to open the properties for Gemini Telescope .Net 2 I get this error: Anybody encounter similar issue or have any hints on what could resolve it? I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Dec Heavy Duty Tr Error after updating firmware
13
Hi I have a G11 with G2 from 2012. I just updated the Gemini 2 Firmware using the GFU software today. I was using the old Firmware Version Level 1.20 Hand Controller and Level 5.21 Main Unit version quite well with no issues at all I now get the "Dec Heavy Duty Tr Error" and beeping constantly? This occurs immediately after i press restart. I never got this error before, ever. The Dec is balanced and I checked Dec worm. DEC Motor is not warm or straining. . It happens in most OTA positions, ie parked CMD or pointing west, and even with the RA tracking turned off? I played with increasing the Dec tracking lag (under servo motors) from 30 to 500, in even steps and it does stop beeping with the error. Appears to be a bug with the new firmware? not sure. Any other suggestions?. Is there anyway i can go back to older firmwear version ? Thanks for your suggestions Domenic

New CR2354 Battery Is At 2.066V by HC and Gemini2 Web Server
16
HC says battery on main board is low. Gemini web server says battery at 2.066 volts. Mount is operating normally. I checked the battery with volt meter and it reads 3.2volts. Been a while since I updated the HC and mainboard. Using GM8 with the tall mainboard. Pls advise.

G2 how to select/use one of several PEC curves saved
4
Hello and Merry Christmas Happy Hannukah. With the G2 and no PemPro (Mac computer), how do I select a specific PEC curve to use? I recently saved a few curves, two for each side of the meridian. I looked at the SD card, and saw those four files plus the "current" one. I am connected, via ethernet, to view the G2 internal web page. So when the PEC is turned on in the handset, which PEC file is used (current)? If the G2 selects the current file, how do we know what sky location file it has used? I also just installed, on my mac an ftp app. Will that allow me to view the PEC file details? Thanks for any help with this. Fred Goodman

Meridian Flips GM8 & Asiair
6
I tried my first Meridian flip this evening. Asiair counted it down and when it was time, the scope moved slightly and was never able to go to the correct coordinates. It was just hanging so I stopped it. is this just a settings problem or is something else causing this? All showed that the flip was on....
