Beta-test of new HC firmware v1.62

Edited

Folks,
?
搁别苍é provided a new (beta test) version of the Hand Controller firmware to use with L6.x:?
/g/Gemini-II/files/Gemini%20HC%201.62%20beta

This firmware adds some of the requested features:

- Show time to limit on the main screen, when time remaining is less than 1 hour
- Checkbox to invert the direction of gearboxes in Mount->Gearing (for McLennan gearboxes , for example)?
- New page added under Mount->Flip to enable/disable and to configure meridian flip points
?
gemhc.bin file in the zip needs to be uploaded to Gemini HCFirmware folder on the SD card. You can do that through the Gemini web pages SD Card menu, or through GFU Advanced tab (drop the whole zip file in the HC section).

Remember to restart Gemini after updating this file. The HC will show uploading.... message for a little bit. When completed, the HC firmware version should show this:
?
Please report any issues/observations/more suggestions here.
?
Regards,
?

In addition to the HC 1.62 beta firmware, 搁别苍é suggests that you try the Gemini L6.03 beta firmware. This may be necessary to support the gearbox reversal feature, but also has some improvements in PEC precision and PEC drift removal.
?
6.03 firmware is located in the same folder:

This looks really nice, a possible issue for 搁别苍é and this HC beta list of corrections to do at some point.
?
There seems to be a synchronization issue between the HC stat flags and the Gemini-2.? Several examples but the easiest displays in this way:? On first entering the Flip Panel (status <229 of 0x0) the panel buttons show "Activate ..." for East and West.? Press each button and these display "Deactivate ...".? Exit the panel and re-enter the Filp Panel, now the buttons display "Activate ...", the wrong status.? Obtain the physical status on Gemini-2 using the ASCOM Terminal (<229) this displays 0x03, both as active.? Restart Gemini-2 and upon entry into the Flip Panel the buttons read "Deactivate ...", the correct status.

Hi David, these are a few simple enhancements to existing firmware, not a major firmware release. I don’t think it’s worth ?reinstating the beta group just to verify these.?

Doug,

I'm reading the state of the Flip Points before changing to the flip points screen. This should help.
Please give the Beta2 version a test:

/g/Gemini-II/files/Gemini%20HC%201.62%20beta/gemhc162beta2.zip

Thank you,
搁别苍é

Btw: Have you already used the HC firmware (looking at the main screen) with the mount being near the Western Safety Limit (an hour or less)?

搁别苍é
?
Yes!? Last night I had to try out the new updates after updating yesterday (L6.05, HC 1.63).? I targeted M2 and let the mount track. When the MI-250 got within an hour of needing to flip, the new "Limit" feature appeared on the HC!? What a useful feature!? Instead of looking at the mount's physical position and trying to guess when it will get to the safety limit, now I know exactly how much time is left just by glancing at the Hand Controller.? VERY convenient!
?
Thanks to all who worked on this update and made it possible. Another feature that makes Gemini easier to use.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, the L6.05 and HC v1.63 test versions are available and provide HC brightness fixes and flip-point configuration is now available from Gemini Web pages:

On Thu, Oct 17, 2024 at 10:20 AM, Beta Available
the L6.05 {Oct 13 2024 19:16}
搁别苍é / Paul,
?
In the Browser panel (Mount) the new Flip activation Checkboxes (East and West) allow entering a check to activate the Flip operation.? But when unchecked these boxes do not take effect, the choice remains checked or active upon refresh.? (At least on my install.? Not critical in beta with a HC to reset.? Please check)

Hi,
?
I am just about ready to update and test this beta but it has been a while since posts and wanted to check whether you need any more or should I just wait for MR.
?
Where are you at with it?
?
Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,
?
Totally up to you. The beta seems pretty stable, and has bug fixes and enhancements, so should be worth an upgrade. v1.63c of the HC and L6.05 are now available for beta testing.

The 6.05 and 1.63c betas seem to work fine using normal hand control operations for visual and with ASIAIR Plus v3.?

I see a HC startup failure at times in the field with no LAN.? The starting sequence displays on the HC starts, waits, switches to connecting to Gemini pauses and then fails to connect.? The screen flashes grey (reboot) and the HC restarts, on the second attempt it connects.
?
When connected to the LAN in the office it does not behave this way when able to connect to the Ethernet LAN.
