12V Exterior grade Wireless Access Point

Linksys routers use 12v 5.1x2.1 connections. They're about the same price as the GL.iNet GL-AXT1800 but they have more ports and can be used as an AP, or an extender/repeater etc...

Sure but AFAIK there are no nano or mini travel routers produced by Linksys and they are not the size of a deck of cards.? Additionally the Slate-AX is a full featured router and has all modern router features including bridge mode, range extender, fast VPN etc. all in a very compact package.??
?
AFAIK the TL-WR1502X AX1500 Travel Router Is the only other comparable small format router and it uses also uses a USB-C port to power the router.? The TL-WR1502X is less expensive but lacks moveable antenna which is a help if attaching the router to a tripod or pier for better Wi-Fi range.?

Correct, it they are not travel routers but OP didn't mention that in his original post.. He asked for a AP that can Extend his Wi-Fi w/o running a cable and mentions 12v power as a must, or preference.
Everyone else here started talking travel router, I use the GLi 1200 myself but I mentioned that because OP was looking for 12v options.

David,

I don't know if you're still looking for suggestions, but if you have A/C power in your observatory, this might be an option for you:
?
?
I use this to bridge networks between my observatory and my house, which is only about 150' apart so the NanoStations are slightly overkill because they can much farther than that.
?
When I tried using LinkSys or equivalent components to build the bridge, I would often get disconnections. That never happens with the Ubiquiti units.
?
Good luck,

That Slate-AX sounds great apart from the USB-C port for power.?? I have 12V DC barrel connectors on my power box but nothing that has USB-C ?

I guess I need to find a 12v to USB-C power supply.

I can second using GL.iNET routers, I have been using them on the mount for many years and have kept upgrading as they released newer faster versions.? The current model which I am using that makes the most sense to me is the compact Slate-AX AKA GL-AXT1800.? You can go faster on 5GHz. with a Beryl-AX but there is not a lot of advantage to it if you need to use the 2.5GHz. band for reliability.? As a person using ASIAIR which had about the worse Wi-Fi implementation imaginable I figured out how to add a wired travel router was key.? Initially everyone including ZWO said it did not work, but in fact it worked perfectly and fully resolved the Wi-Fi problems of the ASIAIR.? When the original Slate routers came out they had a built-in 3 port switch which eliminated the necessity of adding a small switch as I had been doing previously so now the Slate travel router solution also allowed access to the Gemin 2 over Ethernet without the extra piece of admittedly small piece of networking hardware which is how I have been using Gemini 2 for years.? The Slate travel routers have always had retained the 3 port switch feature as does the Slate-AX.? The Beryl-AX only has one LAN port but it can be reconfigured as a second LAN port if needed as would be the case for an ASIAIR user.??

?

The other great feature not often talked about for regular Gemin 2 users is that these routers can be configured to act as bridge router from the Gemin 2 on the mount to the home LAN over Wi-Fi.? So you can have access in the basement or wherever from the house Wi-Fi LAN out to the Gemini 2 using the Slate-AX as a bridge router.? ?

Hi David,
?
Okay I think I understand what you would like to achieve.? What you need is a router that can provide a wireless bridge to your existing home Wi-Fi LAN.? The older Slate-AC750 and newer Slate-AX1800 can be set to provide wireless bridging and this is how I had been accessing the ASIAIR outside in the driveway from inside the house using my phone, a Samsung Tab8 tablet or with Bluestacks or LDplayer Android emulation on the big PC in the office.? But I mostly just use the SLate-AX in regular standalone router mode and use the Wi-Fi network of the Slate-X to access the ASIAIR and Gemini 2 largely because this is how I use it at the club dark sky site and my driveway.?
?
Are you talking about a Pegasus Power Box or some kind of battery "power box?"? I DIY'd a 30A/h LiFePo4 power pack with multiple voltage outputs (5v, 12v and 18v) for device charging and/or power needs.? One of the handiest things possible to use are cigarette lighter sockets so you can use various accessories sold for automotive use.? If your power pack has a 12v cigarette output there are many USB-C power ports, some can provide over 95 Watts (YIKES!) which should be more than enough to power a Slate-AX working overtime.?
?
So for this simple solution just buy a 5.5 x 2.1/5 (? IDK what your box needs) barrel to cigarette socket and plug one of these spiffy METAL body USB-C power plugs with at least a 40Watt rating into the Cigarette socket of the barrel adapter and problem solved a bit more elegantly.??
