Re: Satellite tracking??

开云体育

Brian,
?

Does the new Gemini 2 or will it in the future support satellite tracking?

Currently it is still tracking satellites in leapfrog mode ;-)

But: I've already changed quite a lot in internal tracking. Both axes track in Solar and Lunar mode.
I will add Alt/Az mode next, and with all the internal provisions done for this it could track satellites much better.
But: satellite tracking is not priority #1 now.

Marc,

?
搁别苍é, can you indicate what is done with the last official version (from January 31) ?

Longitude is changed to be negative in the West, timezone not yet.
I'll upload a new version soon today where TZ is changed accordingly, too.

Thank you.

Hello Marc ?

Can you confirm the GEMINI convention used to set the latitude and longitude
coordinates ?
Here is what it is written into the Gemini 2 Quick Start Guide :
- Longitude: positive values for West longitude, negative values for East
longitude.
- Latitude : positive for North latitudes, negative values for East latitudes.

I would like a confirmation because the convention for the longitude is exactly
the opposite convention used everywhere which said positive value for East
longitude (after the Greenwich meridian) et negative for West longitude.

No, I've changed it. Eastern longitudes are positive, Western negative.
Also. I'm just changing the timezone settings the same way: west (behind UTC) negative.

We have to change this in the Quickstart guide.

Re: Web Interface pages samples

Gale
It will be possible for one to modify the web pages used in the web interface if one so desires. The codes and how to do this will probably be published when all the firmware is finished. Some of the instructions was given to the beta testers. This is how Robert was able to do the Hand-Controller and MobileHandController web pages (they are still in work). Of course if one does this, then they cannot hold Losmandy accountable and they do it at their own risk. Also the pages have to be simple html or cgi scripts. It will also be possible for one to write their own catalog pages. Several of the Beta testers have also done this. Once these catalog are tested, and we are sure the format is not going to change, then they will also be published on this users group.

In other words, the Gemini 2 is going to have a lot of flexibility. The future possibilities are probably close to endless.

Hi Tom,

Did a quick check on Google, looks like the standard 10" netbook screen has a 1024x600 display.

I don't know, I don't have a netbook, and do not know what screen size
they use.
Most of the ones I posted are html files that I copied directly from the
web interface, so maybe you can
try them.
The objects (star catalogs) have to be scrolled even on 1680x1050 screen
resolution, and so do some of
the other pages, but most of the pages is something you use to set up
with, and then don't need anymore
unless you need to make location changes. So maybe the answer should
really be NO.

Hi Tom,

Are all of the Web interface pages designed to display on a typical netbook without need for scrolling.

Thanks,

No modeling is done. All of them are subject to change as firmware is updated.

Yes, sir...Keith's cables are terrific! Better fit and easier to route out of the way of moving stuff.

The are of heaver wire and much less flexible, but still flexible enough,
this helps the motors get more current with less voltage drop, and
they do not tangle as easy. I love the right angle connectors.

Rebuilt Motors

Hi everyone

According to Scott today on the phone this morning, all the motors (we are not talking about the Maxim motors)? shipped in the last 2 years have the heat conductive tape added to the interior of the motors.? If you remove the outer cover, and don't see this heat conductive tape around the motor winding, then you have an older motor.?? The heat conductive tape really helps keep the motors from getting so hot that it would melt the solder of the winding, causing the failures.? I think the normal charge for a rebuild motor is $40.00, but please do not try and hold Losmandy to that, as I said before, I am not a representative of Losmandy, and really should not be quoting prices.

I don't think they were the rebuilt motors. They were the stock motors
that Losmandy supplied him as far a I know.

Re: About the ASCOM driver for Gemini

Thanks Tom. My dome does have an ASCOM interface that connects to POTH? I would love to be able to use only GII server to control both scope and dome creating no need for a computer at the scope.
Thanks

I have no answers for your questions, as I don't know. I am sure that
Dome control could have been added to the ASCOM driver, but Paul elected
not to. Your dome software should have it's own ASCOM interface does it
not.
I don't have an iPhone, mine is an Android, so I have no idea if
SkySafari will work. I do know that the mobile web pages are not doing
serial command set, but actually working from inside the Web server.
Maybe 搁别苍é or Paul can shed more light on how the Web virtual serial
port emulation works.

Will the web server work for apps like SkySafari on the iPad. It
interfaces using The LX200 GPS command set. By selecting 192...111 and
a port #, could GII recieve the commands and answer accordingly.
SkySafari uses only a limited set of these commands, but requests
scope info every second.

Note that is does support the web interface as one of the connection
methods. However you will probably have to manually change the IP
address from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.111 for it to work.

Re: Future tech directions?

Interesting question. I would agree that with the appearance of Gemini II, that the push to adopt SiTech hardware and software to the Gemini platform is all but gone now. I do find the tic management capabilities of the SiTech platform intriguing. I guess this must be answered by the Gemini II developers. I am not overly fond of the cost of the high precision encoders though.

--- In Gemini-II@..., "notparticularlyleet" <sigurd@...> wrote:

So, here's a question...

As we may all recall, until we knew of the existence of GII, there was much talk of options. One of the obvious candidates was of course the SiTech system. I presume such talk is probably currently much reduced now, as the feature set of the GII is really pretty lavish.

There is however one feature of the SiTech I'm wondering if we may see come the GII way. That is the tick management feature used with high-resolution external encoders. Using tick-management they are basically able to eliminate PE (on Losmandy mounts as well). That would certainly be a killer feature for GII I think, especially, as a GII needn't be bound to a PC like the SiTech software. Latest talk on the SiTech group seems to be headed in the direction of Heidenhain absolute precision encoders with 33M tics for < $500.

Is this a feature that may be in GII's future?

Thanks,
