Gracias 搁别苍é!!

I have seen the advices from Tom Hilton, but I will try first this advice from you, it seems easier..

Hola Miguel,

From your description I think that your partner flashed the wrong file (that for the mainboard?) into the HC.
Good news is, that you can recover from this condition. Bad news is, that you have to open up the HC (4 screws).
Once you've removed the cover plate, you can find a microSD card at the left bottom of the circuit board.
Press slightly against it and it will come out.

You can then put the latest firmware file gemhc.bin onto the card (the root directory). You may need a microSD card adapter for your PC.
After repowering the HC over Gemini it will flash the new file within seconds and the HC should work again.

Hi 搁别苍é, thank you very much for your answer, I explain you:

At this moment I have not the controller or HC, I will try to go to the observatory early tomorrow to check it along these days, we will like to work with it on the observatory the next Tuesday..

When we power on the Main Board with the HC connected to the 2nd serial port, the screen is on, but we don?t receive any message, any info, nothing.. we touch it, but it doesn?t response, but it is bright, no dark..

We think it is a problem with the firmware ..?? My partner (not me) has tried to upload the firmware that I found in the "Files" section on the group but he said me that he has not reached apparent results.

I will? take the relief with this matter and try to solve this, but I am slightly lost with the process to upload the firmware if it was necessary.

I have spoken with a responsible of the project and he has confirmed me that he could access to the Main Controller (I understand this) through the network connection..

Ok, the next step is take the Gemini and try, if I have new doubts or problems I will ask in the list.. But if you have any advice about the firmware check or upload, I would appreciate it very much..

Hi Miguel,

We have received the new Gemini 2, but we can not see anything on the screen, as if the Gemini was empty. One partner has tried to load the drivers or firmware, but we are not sure if we are doing it well.

Any advice?

So you can access the web server, but the HC stays dark?

What you can check:
- Is the HC connected to the correct port (second serial port)?
- Does the cable used has all 6 wires connected (straight RJ12/6P6C)?
- if the above is correct, you can open the G2 cover plate and check if jumper JP2 is set correctly (middle and right contacts closed vertically), since this provides the power to the port.

Re: Gemini 2 in our hands... Anything on display...

Tom,

Thank you very much for your email. I have a "new" Micro SD card with adapter, I think I can use this to redo the SDRam card..

A step by step instruction is always wellcome, but I understand that is:

1. Format it with FAT system file
2. Copy the gemhc.bin to the root in the directory of the SD card.
3. Then I?m not sure if I need to copy the contents of "HC_SD_card.zip" too in the Card..?

Advices are always wellcome!!

Regards!

when you go to the site where the Gemini 2 is, try and take an SDcard reader with you.? You may have to remove the SDcard from the hand controller and do the update the hard way.? That would involve redoing the SDRam card.? It is not that had of a process.? You could even prepare a sub-directory on your computer with an image of the complete SD card before you go.? Then all you would have to do is remove the card from the hand controller, format it with FAT File system, copy the files over to it, and put it back into the hand controller.?? If you need I can post the step by step instruction on how to generate the image of the SD card, or better yet I will try and put up the latest
Handcontroller SD image, with the latest firmware change.?? You will also need to make the main controller have the latest firmware update to match the hand controller.

Re: Where are the Gemini Twos?

I ordered my G11 with Gemini-2 yesterday. The dealer said to expect an April/May delivery. I don't know how this compares for deliveries of just the Gemini-2 upgrade. Around the time you ordered I think they were saying Feb/Mar deliveries. As to actual deliveries I have no idea.

Hi John,

The Losmandy Gemini 2 web page includes a feature item: Support for the original four-button controller. Would anyone have more details regarding this feature? Does it mean that Gemini 2 can accommodate or interface with the original four button controller that has tactile feel even in the dark?

It has. Just plug the classic HC into the port into the button at the bottom.

The new hand controller features a "tactile membrane on the rear". Does this mean it has the same feel as the original HC? Is there a picture of this tactile membrane?

This is the same type of membrane as the DeLuxe HC with the display had.

My main concern is being able to feel the four buttons with my finger tips during planet imaging without having take my eyes off the computer screen and look at the HC. I find the original HC four button controller ideal for my needs.

I love it, escpecially at the eyepiece with the classic HC in the pocket. Also, the graphic HC now has a screen lock that you can operate the buttons without looking at the display.

Best,

Thanks Dave,
Thanks Rene,

Finally, the wireless control is getting to the mainstream of astro-imaging.
I also have to solve my SBIG camera and RoboFocus wireless connections, but that probably is not the subject for this group.

FWIW

?

AP-Client mode is the normal mode used by most wireless routers and take a WAN connection to create a local network that has access to that WAN connection (typically your CABLE or DSL Modem)

a WiFI Bridge is a a wireless router that is typically used to extend your wireless network to multiple routers but you use the same subnets? (ie.? they all service the 192.168.0.x? CLASS C subnet)

if you try this same thing with a AP what you get is the first router may be on the 192.168.0.x subnet but the second router would have to be on say the 192.168.1.x subnet

very simplified but for those who wonder or care is a basic of what the two devices do.

You have to connect G2 to your network over the Ethernet port, but.there are adapters from cable to wireless available on the market.
