I have a buddy who recently got his GemII. I'm not aware of any limitations or update issues that he had to align with.
If I find out more I will share. His order was with a G11.
I had a chance to play with it (I am a Gem I user), and I like the easier menu management that the screen provides.

units that Losmandy is actually shipping is direct from Losmandy to
customers, where they are contacting each customer and letting them know
the product update status, and making sure the customer understands
before shipping.
