Just for my enlightenment, which encoders did you use and maybe a brief explanation of how you attached them?
Thanks

I don't understand why Losmandy disabled the port for the axis encoders on the Gemini II. It was present on the Gemini I, so Losmandy wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel. The reason: There would be so few users who would use encoders, a really great reason. If I understand correctly, you can connect the Nexus devices in parallel and use the encoders.I control the mount via Cartes de Ciel, i.e., via Ascom? The Nexus devices are also capable of being controlled via Ascom, so will the parallel installation work?Regards, Edwin

The reason the support for the encoders was dropped is nobody used encoders with the Gemini.? The Gemini only allowed the use of relatively low resolution encoders, 10K max. too low to be truly accurate and precise.? The encoder kits available from Astro Devices are 311,296 tic encoders and they work fantastic with the Nexus and Nexus DSC products.? You cannot use these encoders with Gemini 1 because the G1 tic count was limited to 10K tics.?

I have argued the case for using modern high resolution encoders with Losmandy G11 and GM8 mounts but almost nobody who paid for a Gemin 2 is willing to add encoders and a DSC for $600+ and use PUSH-TO mode when they have a Gemini 2.? But if you are an OG star hopper and can still see the night sky or not where you are then this is the best way to use a Losmandy GM8 or G11 mount as they were designed to be used.? I have converted people once they had the chance to use my GM8G with NEXUS DSC and Sky Safari 7 Pro.? You do not need GOTO to find just about anything in the sky.? Balance your Losmandy mount correctly on RA and DEC, open up the clutches and push the mount with your fingertips using the real time marker on your tablet or smartphone in Sky Safari.? Stop and look for the object in the eyepiece, you can use your eyeball and a very light touch or Gemini 2 hand control to get it finely centered.? That's it.? The Gemini 2 will track the object for you, even with the clutches loose there is still enough friction to track the mount if it is balanced well.? This is a lot how we used to do it but with paper charts.? The Nexus DSC connected to Sky Safari is just the next step to electronic interactive sky charts.?
