Re: Getting Started, could use a little guidance

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for that information.??

To answer your question, a little bit of both, I think.? I thought that a good place to start would be to figure out if the mount is up to date, although I think I'm referring more to the Gemini II when I say that.? Is the firmware up to date? Is there any other software in there that needs updating? That sort of thing.? I thought that'd be a good place to start before I attempt to hook the system up to a computer with NINA or TheSky or whatever.?

Then there's the mechanics of the mount itself.? I'm considered to be pretty handy, so I'm not averse to digging in there as well.? I want to learn more about that.??

So, my thought is kind of "let's get the system up to date, and then see if it does what it's supposed to do, whatever that is", if that makes any sense.? Then, see if I can do those things through computer control, and start making any tweaks that are needed.??

So, maybe this is a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway.? There's the Losmandy Titan mount, and there's the Gemini II system.? For all practical purposes, are they really one "thing", that is, can the Titan even operate without Gemini II attached to it? Is there a proprietary connection there between the two, or do people run the Titan mount using something else?? I'm not thinking about doing that since I've got it all here already, but just curious.? For example, I've read of people taking old Celestron CGE mounts and replacing the electronics with something like an Arduino microcontroller.??

Thanks again.
