you only need your computer connected to the Internet, not the Gemini. You can leave your Gemini connected to your computer via USB or other method
I think you are referring to Tom Hilton, who was a great help to many and passed away a few years ago

Think that's what I did with the guy that did the software way back. Really nice guy from CA who called me one Sunday back in 2018. He sadly passed away a few years ago. Can't remember his name, but anyway, he helped me with the firmware on the HC...I seem to remember doing it that way..
