Re: Langston Bacon 1855 - 1859

My furtherest back Sparks married into the Coe family in 1885.? So, as it turns out I am only related to his descendants:? Daniel Sparks(1843 - 1916).? Have never traced his ancestors.

I know that tree does reference some census records etc. ?I was on my iPad and it is hard to make them larger to read them. I may sit at the laptop tonight and see what they say.

Salt Lake City was fun but I was disappointed. ?We have a great library in Fort Wayne IN and I plan on driving down to there once all this virus stuff goes away.

Yes, a big mess.? There is a Langston Bacon that was born in Missouri but he is not part of my bunch.

I live in Hewitt, TX; spittin distance from Baylor in Waco.
I was born in Waco 83 years ago, moved to San Diego in 1956 when I was 19.? Lived there until I retired back in 2000.

I sure would like to go to Salt Lake City.? Maybe when this virus mess is done.

There is no Gresham, Stevens or Sparks in her book.? I am somehow related to Sparks.

The tree on ancestry is a mess. ?They have Langston having been born in Missouri and dying in Texas in 1896. ?I will take another look when I get home. ?I have to get some cat food and glue for my card making.?

Where do you live? ?I went to Salt Lake City this fall but did not find anything on my elusive Gresham. ?

Our family descends from Putnam Sparks Stevens and his wife Attalissa Sparks Stevens. ?They lived near the county line of Marion/Schley counties. ?

Hi Judith,

Thanks for checking out that Bacon stuff.? For years I have been having a big disagreement with a bunch of other Bacon researchers about Langston Bacon and his wife/wives.? I have maintained that he had 2 wives, Caroline married in 1840, and Mary married about 1855. Nowhere but genealogy researcher made documents is there reference to a Mary Caroline.? But there is reference to Caroline and reference to Mary.? I am a descendant of Caroline and my half cousin Charlene is a descendant of Mary.? She did DNA testing on Ancestry and managed to prove that there were 2 different wives based on DNA from folks in the area in TX where they all grew up.? Hurrah!? But there are still details that I don't know yet and always on the lookout for them.? Don't know Mary's last name, don't know for sure where she married Langston.?
The Sarah Bacon on Find a grave was probably Caroline's daughter, my great grandmother.

Do you have folks in Marion Co., GA?? I have a book written by Beatrice Griffin about the Griffin folks that lived there.? Be glad to look up anything.? We might be cousins...

Hope you are surviving this virus mess.? Sure gets in my way.? Had been planning on going to local genealogy library.? But when I take a look at what has been going on in China I know how this things seems to infect so many folks and since we are way behind the time line on testing we could really overwhelm our healthcare system if we don't follow the rules.

Hi Mary Lou

No the narrative does not say but I did a search on Ancestry and found a tree with Langston Bacon in it. ?That tree said she died in AL about 1890 and they had a tombstone picture with the name Sarah on it. ?But the family tree had her name as Mary Caroline Griffin Bacon. ?That tree was a bit messed up though. ?Do you have a membership for Ancestry?

I can go back on line and look some more for you if you don¡¯t have a membership. ?Those trees sometimes can be so messed up but also can give a bit of a hint where to look.

?Hi Judith,

Thanks for finding this info on Langston Bacon, et al.? Does the book give any indication why the author thinks that Caroline Griffin died in AL?? There are some folks that think she died in GA before Langston left GA. And that he also married a woman named Mary before he left.

I am so glad to see these Lists start up again.

I have the book History of Marion County by Rena Cobb.? on page 279 in the Griffin family narrative there is this John Griffin married Jane. their daughter Caroline b abt 1821 d 1850 in AL married Langston Bacon Jan 1st, 1840 in Stewart County, GA.? His father was Lissel Bacon of Bibb County. That was all I found in the book.? There was an Elizabeth Bacon born in 1820 in Marion County but did not list her father. Hope this helps a bit.
