Re: : Digital VFO Si570 Software Availability

ah.electronics@...

Hi Larry

Yes the only part of the original project that was not open source was the Firmware IC on the SI570 Digital VFO.

There are lots of designs freely available on the internet for Arduino driven DDS/VFO's just make sure that the design you choose can provide sufficient output to drive a Double Balanced Mixer (ADE-1) or add a suitable buffer stage to deive the DBM.

Any further questions please do not hesitate to post a message in the forum.

Andy de G6LBQ

Digital VFO Si570 Software Availability

lh1907@...

After reviewing the G6LBQ (All_Things_Multiband) File folder info, it appears the only build info which? is not open source for personal amateur radio use is the Digital VFO Si570 Software. ? Is this true or do I need to review another folder of info in File section?

If it is true, then my first step on the Multiband project is to use an Arduino (Nano or ProMini) to implement the Si570-based software using the Digital VFO Si570 schematic and Operation Manual as a starting point guide.

Hi Lakshmanan

At this time there are no PCB's left so the only option is to etch your own PCB's or build Manhattan style.

Hi Andy

Have you any PC boards, kits or parts left over ?

I'm interested in the RX bandpass filters, PA, & main boards. With or
without components.

Cheers

I did on a BITX20a, even though it is not finished... use VFO-IF settings, like 25MHz - IF(11MHz) and you land on 20m. Didn't use it extensively but it should work, result is the same.

Only beware that IF tuning is reversed, ie base frequency +300..+3000Hz is then -3000..-300-base frequency.

Let me know how it works out for you, I am working on different stuff at the moment but I even stuffed a micro 16x2 LCD display on a BITX20a case.

HI All,

Any body used one of these with a bitx? ?The problem with the one I've just built is that it has only an option for a 'positive' IF ...bitx needs negative... any ideas ho to get around this problem?

Best regards

hi dear Andy...I started assembling your Bitx MK2 project...but there's one doubt.. Should I follow the revised schematic published on14 February 2015, were the Coil T1 is avoided.
thanks and regards

Re: : Am or fm modulation

kon.stamou@...

I am a little confused so as start from
Receive part in order to receive Am or Fm modulation the only thing I need is wider filter. Especially for fm mod I think wider filter is not enough....

In the transmitter part now us I understand the things is a little more complex I need to do the modulation in the vfo part exactly for fm?
For am now is enough wider filter or must I do also something more?

Xtal filters for project Irwell

ah.electronics@...

Hi Everyone

I have posted some information and images of the xtal filter modules I will be using in the Irwell transceiver project.

You can take a look at the images and info at the following web link:

If the above link fails to work just head over to the Files section and locate my Irwell project folder to view the files.

Hi Everyone

Our good friend and co-founder of DXKits Adrian Lane (2E0SDR) has just informed me about a new internet website he has recently launched.

Adrian has developed and launched the website

Hambay provides a one stop solution for buying and selling amateur radio equipment online.

The website is neatly organised and has categories covering all aspects of our hobby and is easy to navigate.

If you have any unwanted radio related items why not support Adrian by visiting his website where you can?

Re: : Rumors of the Irwell project...

ah.electronics@...

Hi John

Great to hear from you and hope you are keeping well.

I do hope to include FM as a mode on my Irwell project and so far I have tested FM in the receive chain and that works fine.

Regards FM transmit I intend to try phase modulation using a xtal oscillator followed by a multiplier chain that will be mixed with the digital VFO. ?It is also possible to create FM with an SI571 but I have yet to find any evidence of this being done with a degree of success. DDS chips like the AD9850 can be phase modulated through software but as I lack the programming skills to do this it wont be an option. Any input in this area will be welcome!

The receive side is almost complete and so far this has been built in modular fashion which allows easy changing and experimenting of the modules.

I am finding it difficult to engineer a reproducible crystal filter for AM mode but this could be down to the choice of xtals being used so I have just etched a PCB for a new test jig that will allow me to experiment more easily... I will try and post some pictures etc of the current filter modules later today.

The Irwel is an ambitious project that requires an enormous amount of development time, unfortunately I have not had the free time needed to devote to the project so its development has been very slow.

Despite the time constraints I am as keen as ever to complete this project and I soon hope to finalize all things on the receive side so that the receiver can be used and enjoyed whilst I work on the transmit side of things.

By keeping the project modular it will be possible to build up just a multi-mode communications receiver with the option to turn it into a transceiver.

Anyway enough from me for now. ?

Regards?

Andy de G6LBQ

Rumors of the Irwell project...

johnjdignan@...

HI Andy

It's been a while since we last spoke... I hear your new project will be a modular design... will it have FM? I've not had a lot of time to play radio this last 12 months but I'm between jobs and I'd like to catch up on any new developments... and if you do have FM on the cards what VFO will ?you be using? ...Do you have a synopsis of your new project to share yet?

Best regards

John.
