G106 NEW to me
Could you direct me to some reference materials on this Frank?
?
?I'm new to the G106 as well but I am near 100% CW so when I did play with the mic I noticed that it's not getting much of a raise out of the meter when I speak and man is the mono hearing awful when using headphones.?
?
? I did the front headphone mod here for Morse work (it steals away the mic plug) but I've also seen an interface box design over at thingverse.com? for the best of both worlds.
?
? So what sort of work did you do on the mic?
?
?Thanks,
?

开云体育I drilled a hole in the microphone, maybe 3/8” in diameter or so. ?I tried an 1/8” but there was not any significant change. ?The 3/8” did the trickIt could be better but I am somewhat satisfied with the results It could be improved I would think. Just Google it I would like to see better high end - why I posted? I am also a CW guy Sincerely, ?Frank Krozel t:?1-630-924-1600?frank@... BSEE, ? AASEET, ? I need to get a few supplies for making some adapters, but I do plan on trying some different mics on the 106.? I modified a FT-817 mic to have the Heil HC-4 capsule and it has a RJ45, so I could set up a RJ-11 plug to RJ45 for that.? I guess you could add a 1/8 jack to that for headphones/external speaker so will probably try that.
?
Also, I have a couple of Kenwood HT style speaker mics where I could create a RJ-11 to Kenwood style adapter for those.? These seem to be higher quality than the Baofeng mics, but I need to evaluate the mic capsule sound they have on a HT first before going to all the trouble of wiring up that one.
?
A lot of the FT-817 solutions to mic issues would seem to apply to the G106 - the lack of compressor, the lack of eq, etc.??
?
BTW, I'm going to eventually do some testing of current draw on bands/features enabled/voltage on the 106, but haven't been able to record my results yet.? Overall, if you use the speaker mic for audio over the internal speaker the radio uses about 20ma more current I am assuming for the relay that engages to redirect the audio.? Not a big deal with modern batteries, but interesting since usually headphones give a current "savings" to the operator.? Would be nice to have a latching relay there.

开云体育Jamie hi,Great thoughts. I also have some “old” junkyard parts from uBitz days, was thinking of trying them out. Will look to you for your results. Pretty cool radio so far. -73- ? ? Frank ? ?KG9H ? ARRL Life Member kg9hfrank@... |
good ideas!!!
?
maybe a board added either internally or externally for ALC?Maybe an alc circuit to give indiction by LED.This would really help in keeping the g-106 clean on output along with filtering.
?
By the way, i also drilled a bigger hole. about 3/8 inch hole. big difference on signal with my unit too. i run the mic gain now, about 15 to 18 . Before ,it was higher setting on mic gain to get same output.with the bigger hole my audio has bigger punch. checking into nets with clear audio, and good sounding reports. qrp all round running into a homebrew paintpole vertical fed with rg-6u quad shield cable. basically cable tv cable.
