Somewhere in the archives is a recent post of mine ( maybe 3 wks or a month
ago) in which I forwarded a letter from Barlean's tothe list.? They
told me about a temperature test they had done on their FS oil in which
they proved to their satisfaction that the onopened botles are not degraded
by prolonged exposure to moderate temperatures.? (I don't know about
100 degrees, though.? It would be good to ask? them about that
specifically.? They are very forthcoming and helpful.)

Not just prolonged
exposure to heat, but even prolonged rough handling of the oil, continued
shaking of the container can degrade flax oil. There
is no excuse for not shipping the flax oil in refrigerated trucks.?
Refrigeration is expensive.? But it seems to me that 99% of the people
that buy flax oil from Barleans and other fine suppliers, would be willing
to pay an extra 50 cents to have their oil refrigerated throughout the
cycle from the original source, in transit, and in the markets.I've
also been using hemp oil from Spectrum, now that it's organic.? Erasmus
recommends its use after a long period on flax oil, because, as he says,
flax is so high in Om 3s, that it can actually cause an imbalance.?
Hemp oil, has a ratio of 3 parts Om 6 to 1 part Om 3, if my memory is correct.?
Not ideal, but close to it.I buy an 8 oz container
of hemp oil, and an 8 oz container of flax, put them both in the freezer,
and alternate my use of them, which I'm assuming gives approximately a
ratio of 2 parts Om6 to 1 part Om 3, and that's close enough to ideal for
me.

?The Barlean's oil has the dates
on the bottles on which it was processed, so you can easily tell if it
is fresh.?As to getting
your oil delivered unrefrigerated from Barleans, sorry to inform you the
health food stores do also.? The oil is shipped by trucks that are
NOT refrigerated.? I talked to Barleans about that and they assured
me that the refrigeration is mainly necessary AFTER the bottle is originally
opened.? With the oil they ship being so fresh, immediate refrigeration
isn't necessary after bottling.?My
concern now only revolves around shipments here to Texas during the summer.??
We sometimes have weeks when the daytime temperatures are above 100 degrees
and, unlike elsewhere, it doesn't cool down that much at night.? Those
warehouses of the shippers aren't air conditioned, so if the oil isn't
delivered immediately, it may have seen 24 hours at 100+ degrees.?
However, once again, the same thing holds true for the oil bought in the
health food stores.? The oil is only refrigerated after delivery to
the stores.? I usually buy in smaller quantities, 2 qts. per order,
during the summer to counter the possibilities of that risk.?NHY?

?Please phone Barleans and ask these
questions about the flaxseed oil..I know they tell us that they are sending
out fresh to us..but again I wonder how long it has been sitting before
the postman or ups gets it to us..and if they keep it cold, or the store
house is much to warm. Some of our stores around here carry the Barlean
products, and most of the time it is refrigerated when we pick it up from
them. If we send by mail, I have no idea what I'm getting. But Leah phone
then early and also write them an email..then let us al know what their
answer will be. If you can't get through to them I will see what I can
do Monday for you in getting an answer.Chances are someone else on this
list will have an logical answer for you already.???
