Dear New Member:

FelineAssistedFeeding (FAF) is a private list/group whose purpose is to provide?
support and share quality?information about feline pancreatitis and related conditions
through email messages, posting of reference materials, and links to outside sources.

?

Below are our group's guidelines. Please take a few minutes to review them,

even if you already belong to other 开云体育??groups. They are important to

follow so that the group discussions stay supportive and helpful.

?

REGARDING ADVICE SOUGHT AND GIVEN:

1. This group does not take the place of your relationship with your vet; do

not implement any change in treatment without consulting your veterinarian. No

matter how good the information or support here may be, it cannot take the

place of your veterinarian' s professional examination and evaluation of your

cat.

?

2. This group is not the place to post about a medical emergency.?If you

believe you have an emergency, please contact your vet immediately or?
proceed?to an ER clinic
. Please don't wait for replies to your post before seeking

professional medical help for your cat.

?

3. Feel free to discuss specific treatment protocols being used for your cat,

but?please don't suggest specific doses of specific medications that should be

given to another cat. We are not vets, and our goal is to give group members

suggestions about treatment options that they may want to discuss with their

vet or research further on their own. You can cite published dosing protocols,

bearing in mind that the goal is to provide ideas, not to prescribe treatment.?

That is, the idea is to?suggest?ideas for your listmate to consider and discuss?
with their vet and?not?to prescribe a specific medication and/or dose.??
Compare:??
"It sounds like Mr. Whiskers might be nauseated.? There are specific medications that?
address nausea and vomiting in cats, such as ondansetron or cerenia.? You may want?
to discuss these with your vet."??
VS?
"You need to give Mr. Whiskers ondansetron and be sure to give at least "x"?
mg per pound."?

The first option is OK. The second will cause the list member to become moderated;?
repeat offenders will be removed from the list.?

?

4.??Avoid food critiques. Stick to sharing info about what you're feeding or have tried or to published

data or your vet's advice.? Do not conflate your opinion with medical fact. Member opinions vary and

many FAF cats have complex medical situations, and listmates may have budgetary constraints

when it comes to food options.? ?We may discuss calories, foods for specific conditions (low

phosphorus for a cat with CKD or novel protein for a cat with IBD for example), but we have no

stance on what people "should" feed.? By the same token, we suggest members be open to hearing

the suggestions from others about food options.? For example, if your cat is doing poorly on the diet

you are feeding, it is helpful to remain open to the possibility that a diet change may be in order and

that a diet that you may not find "optimal" or "acceptable" based on your own personal beliefs may

be worth considering nonetheless.?

5. This list emphasizes the sharing of data and personal experiences related to cats with

pancreatitis and related diseases.? We emphasize evidence-based medical approaches, which

tend to be more Western-medicine based.? Discussions regarding alternative therapies and

approaches are welcome.? These approaches are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but they

do have a significant difference related to safety:? the majority of Western-based pharmaceutical

approaches require a vet's involvement, whereas many "natural" therapies can be obtained

without a vet's approval or involvement.? While all caregivers are assumed to be acting in their

cat's best interests, the lack of medical involvement presents an additional risk when information

is disseminated in a group forum.? For this reason, we may limit the discussion or promotion of

"natural" or alternative therapies or medications, in much the same way we do not allow

prescriptive information on dosing or medications for conventional therapies (i.e. "You should

give Fluffy "x" medication at "x" dose.").

6. Post to the list, not off the list. When suggesting ideas to your list mates,
doing so on list not only helps others reading along, but also ensures that

any mistake or typo on your part doesn't cause unintended harm to the person

you are trying to help. All of us who have been on these groups for a while have

forgotten to include a "not" in a sentence or made typos involving decimal

points that can make a huge difference in meaning.

?

WHEN POSTING:

1. Include your first name and your cat's name in all your posts.

?

2. Change subject lines if the discussion has changed from the original post's

subject line. For example, if someone originally posted about their cat's lab

results but now the discussion has moved on to how to give subcutaneous

fluids, please change the subject line accordingly.

?

3.?Please do not post about other unrelated subjects regarding animals such

as adoptions, rescues, breeding, animal abuse or neglect.?

?

4. Please refrain from posting descriptions or commentary that could be disturbing

?to your listmates.? Providing sufficient detail about your cat’s condition is acceptable,

but bear in mind that your ?listmates are likely dealing with significant stress and sharing

details that are overly graphic about your cat’s condition could cause additional stress for

?others.? Strive to describe circumstances calmly and factually.

?

4.?Do not use this list to solicit money or business for goods or services.

We understand the large financial pressures present when caring for a sick

kitty. You may, however, recommend products or services in which you have no

financial interest.

5. Drop any "thread" (subject) when asked to do so by the Group owner or a?
moderator.?? Certain topics may generate a lot of emotions which can lead to a?
high volume of posts from members with opposing views.

6. Don't complain about the Group publicly to the Group. This is a privately held Group?
whose volunteer owners? and moderators determine its overall scope and philosophy. If?
you have complaints or suggestions about the Group or how it's run, write to us and we'll?
listen and provide a response. Our address is?
[email protected]
Make sure you add the word "owner" in the address, or your message will go to the Group.

?

7. For your own safety, do not post your address or phone number to

the Group.

?

8. Stay on topic.? This group’s focus is on inappetant cats and the challenges that presents.? We

discuss strategies on how to feed a cat who is not eating on their own, or who isn’t eating enough on

their own, possible causes of the inappetence for purposes of discussing with your veterinarian,

supplies for assisted feeding, and the overall emotional toll having a cat who isn’t eating on their own

presents to the human caregiver.? We are not a catch-all group for any cat-related question.? Off-

topic posts are subject to rejection or deletion.

?

9. Posting to several groups at once, also known as cross-posting, is acceptable *provided*

?that your cat’s condition truly applies to the groups being queried.? Blanket cross-posting,

particularly if the post does not directly relate to the group’s focus, is strongly discouraged

and those posts may be deleted or rejected.

?

OBSERVE THE GOLDEN RULE:

1. No flaming allowed. Flaming is being insulting or hostile in either actual

words or intent. Please be respectful in expressing your opinions and of your

list mates' opinions. Do not engage in heated discussions. Disrespect of other

members' points of view and circumstances will be considered flaming and will

result in being put on moderation or banned from the group.

?

2. Please use extra care when discussing end-of-life issues.??We all have

different views on when it's time and what happens after death.??Please avoid

suggesting it's time for another member to consider putting their beloved cat

to sleep. No matter how grave another situation may seem, this should only be

discussed if the member brings the subject up first.

?

COPYRIGHT AND OTHER LEGAL/LIABILITY ISSUES:

1.?Do not include vet or clinic names in any posts, even if the comments are

positive. Instead, use "Dr. R.", Clinic ABC, our vet, etc.

?

2.?Respect copyright laws. When referring to published information, do not

copy the information in its entirety. With proper acknowledgement/attribution you may

quote a few short passages, but it's preferable that you provide a link to the

original source.

?

3.?Do not forward in part or whole any message that appears on FAF to another

group or via private email without obtaining the permission of the original

poster and any trailing post author. Any post appearing on the group is

copyrighted to the original poster and so forwarding without permission is a

violation of copyright.

?

4.?By becoming a member of this group, you affirm that you are at least 18

yrs old. You agree to hold harmless the owners and moderators of FAF and

anyone participating in the group for their suggestions or comments in group

messages from any loss, claim or damage you may suffer or may claim to have

suffered, by reason of using any such suggestions when caring for your cat.
