The Numbers
So this morning they are touting US deaths from the coronavirus to be 3100.? Not being satisfied with just that bit of information I looked up deaths from flu for the 2018-2019? flu season which the CDC gives at roughly 34,000.? Yesterday I did same with the number of California deaths from coronavirus which was 118 and deaths from flu for the 2018-2019 flu season which was 438.? The California agency which tracks this uses death certificates issued to tally flu deaths.

Now you've gone all redundant on us. LoL! More than 38,000 people die every year in crashes on U.S. roadways. YMMV. |

This COVID-19 is ridiculously infectious and spreads like wildfire because, apparently, no one had the antibodies to fight this virus very effectively. Hence, you have rampant infection rates that would go through the roof if steps were not taken to mitigate it - ie, social distancing and closing venues where groups of people are able to spew germs all over each other. Yes, other diseases kill more people every year as well as accidents but that is utterly moot. What is relevant is that unchecked, the virus could kill a few million Americans, at the rate we are going with some safety measures in place they are talking about perhaps a mere 100-200K people in the US dying. And that is a lot more than your stats on various flus this season.? |

This flu may be no more deadly than any other "flu" we've seen in past years.? We have had only 3 confirmed deaths from the virus in this county of over a million.? Confirmed that at least one of those was indeed elderly and at risk with prior conditions.? That happens every year. Let's not become Orwellian over this.? Besides the whole world seems to be turning into a Funny Farm Lounge anyway. :-) |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBet you didn't look up the California numbers. TMMV.On 3/31/20 10:17 AM, WillyTex via

"We truly are shutting down America and harming a great many Americans, based on the worst fears that have not been true and are not on the horizon. We are scaring the hell out of the citizenry. A few additional statistics help counsel a lowering of our national temperature: The vast majority of deaths from the virus are of people over the age of 70 with underlying frailties. The focus on New York where, of course, most of the media is based, is also flooding and distorting the picture for the rest of the country. Of course we need to pay attention to ground zero, which is New York. But what happens there is not what is happening everywhere. For example, our most populous state, California shows 149 deaths, 11% of the total in New York."? ?

Not sure what your point is.? Are you comparing where the country is now with a full year of flu season numbers???

And, what Anne says also.? Are you trying to minimize this?? Is it because it hasn't affected you and therefore it must not be real?? That's a classic tRump stance.? Or, because CA isn't seeing the doomsday numbers?? Maybe it's because Newsom jumped to a statewide stay at home order early.?

Oh never mind.? I saw your answer - another classic tRump move - accusing the other of what you're guilty of.??
