So this morning they are touting US deaths from the coronavirus to be 3100.? Not being satisfied with just that bit of information I looked up deaths from flu for the 2018-2019? flu season which the CDC gives at roughly 34,000.? Yesterday I did same with the number of California deaths from coronavirus which was 118 and deaths from flu for the 2018-2019 flu season which was 438.? The California agency which tracks this uses death certificates issued to tally flu deaths.
Here is the thing, though. This COVID-19 is ridiculously infectious and spreads like wildfire because, apparently, no one had the antibodies to fight this virus very effectively. Hence, you have rampant infection rates that would go through the roof if steps were not taken to mitigate it - ie, social distancing and closing venues where groups of people are able to spew germs all over each other. Yes, other diseases kill more people every year as well as accidents but that is utterly moot. What is relevant is that unchecked, the virus could kill a few million Americans, at the rate we are going with some safety measures in place they are talking about perhaps a mere 100-200K people in the US dying. And that is a lot more than your stats on various flus this season.?
