Ravi, I'll reply anyway. I've never been a conformist.? I think for
myself.? I seek out the opinions that are different from the
mainstream media because
I know how the mainstream media
operates.? For decades much of the general public took them with a
grain of salt.? Funny that people who consider themselves liberal
fall for the "party line".
No, I'm not a Modi supporter.? I was hoping the Singh would have
done a better job to raise all boats.? But India is a corrupt and
messy country, a problem which is going to take a long time to
correct if it ever is.
That Atlantic article nails the problem with superficial liberals
like I find here.

Thank you Uncle B2 but not happy that a) you are being flippant
about this topic, everyone here knows I'm in SoCal ?& b) you
are peddling the same theories that contributed to this second
wave, you might very well be a Modi supporter. Can you not feel
the suffering of people? How can keep denying the obvious? Please
don't respond with your same old arguments - have read enough.
Good to hear that your family is well.?
It's just that Ann made it sound like
you
are living in India and I knew better.? Unless
they've been there TM people tend to be very naive
about India.? It's not the "land of the Ved". ;-)

Thank you Ann,
Emily & Sal!
My family in India - luckily - is
doing fine. I'm most concerned about my mom
who's 73 and she's been fully vaccinated a few
weeks back. She only had a few mild symptoms
after each of the doses and she's been mostly
home since last year, other than family
gatherings with masked and her siblings who
are also vaccinated and staying safe.
I have just heard of my
sister-in-law's (brother's wife) losing a
family member who was 37. Apparently a result
of a heart attack from a clot after being
discharged, he should have been apparently
prescribed blood thinners as one of the
medicine used for recovery is known to cause
clots (based on what my brother told me). Also
heard that my cousin's husband is sick, but
recovering at home
Talking to friends from my
college days here in US and family members
everyone at this point knows someone who's
gotten really, in ICU and/or lost a family
member. It's been horrible, whatever you are
hearing on the news is painfully true. The
most common stories I have heard is people
panic-stricken trying to find ICU beds.
India with it's structural
problems with healthcare cannot handle this.
Most of the top hospitals are all for-profit
entities, coupled with the absence of health
insurance is only for the privileged. You
would need at least thousands of dollars to
get quality access to healthcare. The poor,
lower middle class are dying in droves and
not even being recorded as COVID related.
It is horrible how the government
and Modi completely disregarded Science and
declared premature victory over the virus for
political purposes and to maintain his aura
among the deluded masses.
Also concerned that the variants
have already made it here - I'm hoping for the
best. What I'm hearing is that we should be
protected against the UK & Indian variants
if we are fully vaccinated.
Same here Ravi.
It sounds like a totally
out of control and totally
predictable tragedy, the almost
inevitable result of science-denial
and authoritarianism. ?If nothing
else, this should prove how utterly
bankrupt their ¡°leader¡¯s¡± policies
are, he was holding super-spreader
events until last week or something.
? And it doesn¡¯t even matter how
wealthy someone is, two bigwigs from
the TMO just succumbed a few days
ago.
I¡¯d like to think of
Modi spending his last days as
¡°leader¡± hiding out in his bunker
but that probably won¡¯t happen.
And eventually it will
affect the rest of us, what happens
in India usually ?doesn¡¯t stay
there.
