Back in 1999 Microsoft stopped all product development for a year as
they looked for the Millennium problem.? They found a lot of things
like code checking a for a 16 bit integer when it should be checking
for 32-bit.? Friends who worked their told me about it.? Seems that
if you could say "C" back in the 1990s Microsoft would give you a
job there.
I think Microsoft is trying to replace the NT kernal with Linux.?
They should because a lot of Windows still has the 256 byte
limitation on file paths whereas Linux it's 2048.? My Visual Studio
program folder has Ubuntu DLLs.? The public would not know the
difference other than using Linux would be a lot more secure.?
Legacy apps would run with Wine where Microsoft can even supply the
substructure there that isn't often available just on Linux.

Bill Gates can't even prevent a virus on Windows.
