strange issue

I have a strange issue with my 857, it stopped transmitting on 30 meters yesterday, now it will not power on, and just clicks like the relays are stuck doing something.

Does this on both power supply and a 12 v car battery.? and the voltage drops on both like its shorted or something.

any suggestions??

ok update, did some trouble shooting with another amateur.? It is apparently drawing too much power at power on and cycling on and off rapidly.. what could be causing this any suggestions??

Hi Andy,

Check the fuses in the fuse holders. People had had various problems with them becoming unseated or loose in the holder.

As N4MF stated, I would start with checking the fuses and fuse holders. If that does not reveal the problem, then look at the components upstream until you find the culprit.

What sort of value of "too much power", Andy?

Would the current be similar to the normal current under Transmit condition? After checking the DC lead and fuses as already suggested, check anything that might be forcing it into transmit, certainly remove the microphone and any external interfaces.

by too much power, i placed a power meter on the leads and the power dropped to almost nothing then back up to 13.8 v then down to >1 v.? l get 13.8 v continuous when i connect up any other equipment and it will power up without any issue.

i can upload a video if that will help.

Clean the fuse clips that connect to the fuses and replace the fuses at the same time. Common problem with these type of fuse holders.?

You seem to have a short in your radio!
My thought is the power supply senses too much current demand from radio and shuts down, ?then it resets attempts to again and once again shuts down?

Sounds like your finals shorted out.? You will need to either open it up and find the short or send it in for repair.? You should contact Yaesu tech support next.
