audio pitch too high

I've gotten complaints that the audio pitch is too high , is there a way to lower the pitch . I am using the MH -59 A8J mic.

Thanks

Too high in tone/pitch in either mode?
Both modes, both LSB and USB "high"? Hmm.

I am not aware, and stand to be corrected, of a setting for that.

Just did some word searches in three editions of the operator manual. I see no control/menu/setting that would appear to adjust TX _audio_ in such a fashion.

To me, at a distance with no further information, it sounds like tuning.

Perhaps the Clarifier or RIT, Receive Incremental Tuning is engaged.

When this kind of thing is overlooked one may tune to other stations ("net", "zero beat") yet be transmitting elsewhere, perhaps higher.

1. Ask, possibly before you make changes, if others may tune to your signal, to reduce said undesired high pitch. If they can, then
2. Check your own settings to determine if the CLAR (RIT) is engaged

One might tackle #2 directly, and in any event. However it's fun to understand more.

All I can think of from here.

All the best, John VA7OTC

Thanks John - what kind of mic do you use , is it the stock mic or other ? Please specify.

Thanks

Justin

On my mic (a MH-31 stock mic for the FT857) there is a switch "1" or "2" on the back of the mic, which changes the sensitivity to high, or low, audio frequencies.
I don't know if the MH-59 is the same.? The normal position for the male voice is for better low-frequency sensitivity.

Good luck,
??? cheers,
????? Darrel, aa7fv.

I believe there is also a tx band pass filter in the menu.? Set it to low pass and see how that does.?

Are we talking audio high frequency too bright or are we talking off frequency?
It could be either. There could be a TX shift that is not zero beat with the person he is talking to.
Or he tunes where the other station sounds lower putting him sounding higher.
If dialing in the a "channel" even frequency the radio could be off.
Audio or RF? I am not sure which we are talking about.

Thanks – I think I found what your talking about and will try it .

Have you set the menu on the radio to use the MH-59A8J? It’s menu 059 and needs to be set from NOR to RMT before plugging the MH-59 in.

?

Also, the MH-59 is a hot mic compared to the default mic. For it to sound good, you need to run through the ALC adjustment in the manual (page # differs between manual versions). For my voice, after going through the ALC on the MH-59, my SSB Mic Gain went from 50 to 27, and AM/FM went to 25. I also dropped the PROC to 30.

?

For FM I set it to 27 after performing the ALC adjustment and used friends on the local repeater to help me tweak it. It was close with 27, but I got the best sound at 25. I set AM the same, but I don’t use AM, so it really doesn’t matter.

?

The MH-59A8J is a really good sounding mic once configured. After doing the ALC adjustment, I regularly get unsolicited comments on the high-quality sound on my audio. I have also been told I sound great for a mobile station. All of this only after I added this mic.

?

I have a ham radio website that has a lot of information I have collected for my rigs, hoping to help others out. It is outdated, and I am hoping to rebuild it in the next few months, but there might be info in there that can help. The downloads such as Chirp are way outdated, so it’s best to go directly to their websites rather than download the installers.

?

Hope this helps,

?
