857D DC power cable problem
To day I had a problem with DC power cable of? my 857D. One of the fuse? gave problem with rig intermittently switching off.? When I checked the fuse unit got hot hot and the holder became loose. The holder is damaged and I cannot reuse the holder.?
As I have fuse in the power supply will it be OK if I bypass and give direct connection to the power supply?? Request comment? VU2TE Unni |
Always best to have fuses in line.? Best to Install new fuse holders or get a new cable. For many years I have never fused my radios with the exception of those installed in a vehicle which I fit with a fuse in both positive and negative lines.
My radios are normally used in the bush (forest) and have a 1M cable to a lead acid battery, a fuse is pointless in this situation. However if you run your radio inside a house and especially if its wiring is concealed then one fuse is sensible. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhether to fuse the line when using a fused power supply it depends on where the power supply fuse is before or after the transformer.? Fuses are intended to prevent the wiring from becoming a fire starter.?? In any case, with mobile installations it is necessary to fuse both negative and positive leads as near as possible to the power source.? For fixed station a fuse is not needed on the negative (minus) lead, but certainly won¡¯t do harm if present as are most OEM power cords.? ??Regards, Phil / K4PO ? ? |
