857D Buttons Inoperative

All top row buttons except DSP button inoperative.? Will not change modes or bands.? Anyone have an idea on this? Please advise.

Is the "KEY" symbol showing on the screen, if yes, the frequency associated controls are locked, unlock them.

Remove the control head from the chassis, disconnect the head cable and check for dust or other debris/damage. Reconnect and ensure proper seating.

Thanks k1prc.? I did as you advised.? Removed the cover, blew out the dust with a can of air, inspected what I could see and reassembled.? It worked..for a minute.? But, it didn't last and went back to my original complaint.

Try a different cable. If the problem persists your might have a bad control head. Replacements are readily available.

Remove the control head again and, with a Q-tip and/or cloth saturated with Deoxit, clean any and all contacts you can get to.

That the buttons "worked for a minute" sounds to me like a possible oxidation issue, especially so given the age of these radios.
