Re: Zebra lines on the display

I want one!

Re: Zebra lines on the display

Joshua KJ7LVZ

I got mine this week to have on hand in case I end up with a failure or rather, WHEN I get a failure.? They are the control board, LCD, buttons, uController, encoder knob.? There is no frame, volume/sq knob, or VFO optical encoder.? It is certainly the meat of the control head.

Re: Zebra lines on the display

Are those FT-857 control panels the whole head?

Re: Squack On Any Button Press

Solved!? I had a RT Systems programming cable plugged into the radio but it became unplugged from my computer.? When I fully unplugged?it from the radio the squacks disappeared and it now transmits just?fine!? Thanks for the idea - I was just unplugging it to send the radio and decided to give it one last try.? 73. de AB9NN

Re: Squack On Any Button Press

¡please try to disconnect the usb cable, if you have this link maybe do it¡I don¡¯t know why¡

Re: Zebra lines on the display

As I thought, I have 2 FT-897 control panels with LCD's surplus to requirements, and also a few control panels for the 857 in addition to various other spares like encoders, heads, etc'.

These were all accumulated while I owned the 857/897, but these are now long gone & replaced with more current rigs.

Squack On Any Button Press

I have a 10 - 12 year old well used FT 857d.? Recently when I powered it on or pressed any other button I get a strange loud raspy squack along with the usual tone.? Receive seems to work fine but I am no longer able to hit close repeaters.? I have checked my antenna connections and in fact removed all antennas and speaker plugs.? Same thing.? I also did a factory reset with HOME - POWER ON buttons.? It came up at 7.000 Mhz with the same issues.

I called Yaesu and they said they had never heard of anything like that.? Anyone have any ideas?? I probably will pack it up and send it in but thought I would check while I am getting that done.

Thanks!? 73 de AB9NN

Unfortunately radioworld.uk is out of stock. Thank you all for the replies.
The only one I found is an aftermarket product, from Australia, but he is not answering my emails.

Re: Zebra lines on the display

I don't have just the LCD, however, I have 2 (I think) brand new control panels with LCD's that I bought a few months ago that are no longer of any use.

I sold my 897 nearly 2 weeks ago.

It doesn't appear you're anywhere near me, though, so unless you know somebody here in the UK purchasing it won't be cost effective.

I purchased the last ones from Radioworld back then.

A few months ago, I got one from Radioworld in UK. They told me then there were only 7 left.
That was the ONLY place I could find them. I have a second 897 that is starting to do the same thing, but still very readable. I hope they have some left....
Many hams are now using the CAT displays. They work well but do not show menu screens.

Re: Bluetooth CT62 interfaces and soon available YAESY CT62B-Meter/Interface!

Obviously Yes HRD is a good option, but there are tones of radio control or logbooks apps out there that use these links?

Zebra lines on the display

Bat Falcon

As all of you know the "white" lines some time they do appear and there is nothing to do, except the replacement. As far as my 857, I already have purchased the replacement panel. BUT just last week the same issue appeared on my 897. I am searching the web for a replacement display only,?even the after market types, seem to have vanished from the shops.?

So, I am asking you guys for your help. If anyone knows a shop, or an individual to purchase the screen only, even the aftermarket type,?for the 897, please give a link. I do not want to throw away this radio just because I can't find a screen to replace.

Thank you for your time,

Michael SV1SLB

I love the portable yaesu rigs but the tiny little screens are a problem for me.
I ordered two of these the Bluetooth devices last night, payed for them this AM and I promptly received tracking numbers so I¡¯m pretty pleased already and looking forwards to trying them out

Ceramic Filter Replacement Service

Tony

All:

For those having ceramic filter issues with their FT-857 or T-897, Dave, W8FGU offers his services at a reasonable price. He did a great job replacing the filters on my rig. The cost is $50 plus shipping if you send him the board. The filters are available from Yaesu for less than a dollar each.

Faulty TOKO filters have speckled material on the outer case and a common symptom is static on the receiver with no antenna connected. The static also appears on the transmit signal. Dave sent me the old filters and all were corroded internally.

Dave is known for specializing in servicing Elecraft legacy gear and has serviced my old KX1 / K1 in the past. For more info see:

Re: SSB issue

If I remember correctly there is an amplifier that is just after the SSB filter in the transmit path for SSB, and I think is it on the hidden side of the board.
It can be taken loose and flipped (I use a sheet of paper to isolate the electrical from the chassis). Be careful to make very short test transmissions with low power set. I lost a set of driver transistors while working on one of mine. A scope will make if fairly easy to trace the signal. It may have been a mixer in question, but I have slept since then so I can't be sure.

Thanks for the comments¡

I have no output rf when transmitting in SSB mode regardless of freq. It receives SSB fine. Regarding AM¡transmits fine¡power ok and modulation ok too. In working through the schematics/docs it looked to me like the SSB generation circuitry is on the underside of one of the boards and cannot be accessed unless the board is removed¡was attempting to troubleshoot with a scope but was stopped there. Besides the zebra display its been a great rig¡used it motorcycle mobile (2m) for a number of years.

Subject: Re: [FT-857] SSB issue

?

The FT857 has a signal path for SSB that is different from the CW and FM. Part is shared with the AM. Does the radio receive and transmit on AM?
For that matter does it receive on SSB and not transmit or the reverse or are both inop perhaps along with AM as well?
The signal tracing is not too difficult, but as I remember the circuit board needs to be removed to get the the common amplifier etc.?
The difference in the AM and FM is the unbalancing of the balanced modulator and the use of a ceramic filter for AM vs the crystal filter for SSB.
