Re: It's a surprise!
I forgot to add that I sent them a pic I took with my phone of the label at the bottom of the radio with all the info.

Re: It's a surprise!
Yep. That's what I did when I wasn't sure, and they promptly emailed back with the good news that the 857 I had been gifted was actually an 857D. -- Paul Braun WD9GCO Anchor, Amateur Radio

Re: It's a surprise!
Juan, How did you communicate with them? Phone, email? Did you just call and ask, maybe give them a serial number? I have the same question, need to follow up too. Tnx, ================== 73,

It's a surprise!
I'll be darned. Yaesu tech support just informed me that what I bought is actually the 857D. No wonder it doesn't have the DSP slot. Made my day! ? 73, Juan

Re: Factory head cable
Yes. It is a straight through 6 pin modular cable that has been used for decades on multi-line phone systems. 73, Doug -- K0DXV

Factory head cable
Is the factory head control cable a straght-through RJ6 modular? The radio I bought came with the extended cable but not the small one to connect the head while attached to the body.

Re: Filters
If one were using the radio as an exciter with a transverter for higher bands, for such as EME, yes, I'd be tempted to put one in. Most folks dial about, and many of the modern data protocols display

I'm pretty sure it's a US unit. Juan

Ok. I don't do CW, just voice and digital, so I'll pass on that for now. Thanks again. 73, K1CPR Juan wrote:

Re: No DSP-2 socket?
I'd like to add... Are you sure you got a North American 857? I have an early 857D, I recall that for a few months back then someone was selling 857's at a ridiculously low price, it turned out that
