I guess you've never had one apart? Did you see my other post about the zebra strips? These electrically conductive rubber pads are usually used to make electrical contact with an LCD module? Zack

A lot of LCD displays use zebra strips, which are alternating conductive and non-conductive rubbery material. They get their name because the conductive strips are black and the non-conductive ones

The FT-857D is not that difficult to work on, but there are limited people who offer the service. There is one shop that does here is a link to his Facebook page.

Hello Zack; I also sent my FT-857 in for repair. Two main boards and FacePlate need to be replaced. It cost $850 for everything. The radio performing like new. I have it installed in my Hummer H3.

Zack Probably not.? That board is all Surface Mount Technology and repairing the board would require a LOT of specialized equipment, assuming someone can determine what the actual problem is with the

One of the big problems with the 857 is the data port itself.? I had this problem a few years ago.? If that DIN plug is not FULLY seated, you are not going to get any audio.? I had to shave down

We have gone over this a few times and the jumpers match what Tigertronics shows for this radio as well as his 891 which has the same issue.
