This issue has been discussed over and over for the past few years. IMHO it seems that you are more likely to have the Zebra stripe issue if your radio was mounted in your car under hot sun

I cut a little piece of clear plastic to cover the display screen and also generally cover the head unit with a cloth when I'm not using it.? Car gets quite hot but no problems in years. 73,? Daniel

My ft-857d was installed in my vehicle for years. It developed stripes. I then removed it from the vehicle and did some SOTA activations during a Scottish winter, with minimum temperatures of -5¡ãC.
