I bought my FT-857 new and have never had the filter problem. It manufacturer info is: July 2003 Lot 10 #192 in lot 10 So it is not one with the problem rather one that had not had the problem (yet)

Howard: The FT-857D is being serviced at this time so I don't have it in my possession. However, the FT-897D I recently purchased has a date code of July 2007 and it has the same ceramic filter issue.
