Re: WANTED: Yaesu TCXO-9

Mike

Matt, well sorry to hear that they are no longer supporting those parts for the 857 as I have 3 of them. If you are having problems with yours's I would try one of the crystal-controlled ones as I use them in my radios with no problems at all.

Re: Buttons not working

Andreas, OE3ANC

It seems like the 2 470 ohm resistors right after J1025 PIN 7 and PIN 8 where blown. I replaced them and now everything is working normal again. Not quite sure, why MIC DWN was pulled down to 0V, but i'm glad it's working again. It looks like i just did my first radio repair :)

Re: Buttons not working

Andreas, OE3ANC

In case anyone has the same problem:

My buttons aren't working, because MIC-DN (PIN 8 on J1025 / PIN 3 on J1010) gets pulled down permanently somehow.
There should be 5V when there is no button pressed, on my FT-857 it's 0V.
You can reproduce this behavior with the "DOWN" Button on your mic.

I'll post an update when i've identified the damaged part...

Re: WANTED: Yaesu TCXO-9

Hi Troy,

Unfortunately, Yaesu stopped selling the TCXO-9 quite a while ago, and new inventory at the various radio suppliers was depleted long ago.

Yaesu would most Lickly your best bet for an original replacement.

FYI:
I have 3 of the clones in 3 different radios and have had no problems.?

Re: WANTED: Yaesu TCXO-9

Hi Giulliano,

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, I do not have a TCXO-9 to rework or adjust.? I am looking for my first TCXO-9 for the FT-857D.

I have heard of the issues with the clones.? I am definitely avoiding those.? If I can't find a "non-clone" I will live without it.? :-)

Re: WANTED: Yaesu TCXO-9

Matt,

I experienced in the past the tcxo failed to oscillate due to component aging.
I corrected the issue adding a smd resistor at emitter of oscillator transistor, doubling the bias current.
Another possible cure is to play a little with the two cap values of the colpitts feedback network.
I know it is small? but with a little of pacience you could succeed.
Giuliano IV3DLW?
Ps: the clones I have seen contains? ?a PLL inside? and put out a dirty signal with visible harnonics and maybe also? phase noise. Impact on tx purity and rx dynamic range is not unknown, not measured.

WANTED: Yaesu TCXO-9

Hi All,

I am looking for a TCXO-9 for my FT-857D (used original TCXO-9, not a third party copy).? If you have one for sale please let me know.

Re: FT-857 RTS/DTR CW Sending

Yes right , in DB9 case there is plenty of place for components ¡. after that use an USB/ RS232 convertor having all command pins for RS232 ( not only RX and TX )

Good luck

Re: Stolen FT-857D

Not insured.

I am now out of balance as an Emcom guy. I had two FT-857D radios. One for portable. One for car. A FT-897D for the home QTH.

I keep waiting for a new 100W all mode all band shack in the box rig that is solid and not a power hog on receive, but no joy.

I did sell my IC-706MKiig to a new ham that is visually impaired. It was my spare. Its been a good match for K04HFS macular degeneration.

For the time being I am pushing the FT-897D back into double duty.

God is good. It will all work out.

Re: Buttons not working

Thank you for the suggestions, but unfortunately it's not the lock key. The lock button is also not working and there is no lock symbol on the display.

Re: Buttons not working

Have you tried the lock button on the lower right side of the panel??

Hi,

What i've tried so far (with no luck):
- Tried a different front panel
- Tried a different cable between panel and body
- Checked the 8V power rail on the connector (was ok)

I checked the schematics and noticed, that the communication between front panel and main unit is some kind of bus and since encoder and VFO control etc. are working fine, i think that this bus also works. The power button is a single pin on the connector and doesn't communicate over that bus.

My guess is, that there is some kind of corrupted data in memory.
Since the button don't work, i can't do any resets.
Is it possible to reset the memory over CAT or a Jumper on the mainboard?

Has anyone else had this problem?
Any other ideas?

Thank you in advance for your input!

Could it just have the Front Panel locked out with the Lockout key?? If you see a small key icon bottom right of the display press the bottom right button to the right of the large tuning knob to turn the lock off.? Hope it is this simple of a fix.? I had issues as well with mine engaging in the beginning.?
