FT 857 memory retention problem

After programming The VHF an UHF (Works fine), I turn radio off and I loose the tones for repeater operation. Does anyone know if there is a memory battery in this radio?

Re: MH-59 microphone

Yes, thank you. I already found it.

Re: MH-59 microphone

FTFM. There is an Appendix in the 857 manual on the mh59.

Re: FT857D replaced with a 891

Yes that was the issue. The positive was not locked in to the spring clip.

Permanently bonded powerpole connectors are your friend
Ben

That would not have helped him in this case. What I believe he is saying is that the crimp on conductor tongue was not pushed in far enough for the tip to be beyond the end of it's lift spring. With the tongue not locked in place the tongue would move back when the other connectors tongue struck it instead of them sliding up over each other and providing a large area of contact.

My FT857 used to work well in digimodes. But lately, it seems to not receive the lower part of any frequency I tune to. It seems as if there's a bandpass filter somewhere with it's lower frequency set too high.

when I replace the radio with an FT817 in my setup (so all cables and modem and tuner and computer remains the same), everything works ok.

I must have messed up somewhere in the menu of the ft857, but no idea what. clarifier and if shift are off ...

somebody has any idea's as to where to look ?

That is indicative of a filter setting or a DSP setting.

Re: HELP: Hidden/Service menu: I'm trapped

Thanks to all that responded to my initial post. Unfortunately I've not yet found a solution to my predicament,
the radio still does not respond to the [Func] key in spite of Resets

However, I found a probable cause described in rtcnotes.blogspot.com:
"For some reason, Yaesu's firmware writers included a CAT command which would completely reset the radio including the specific calibration settings that are written into EEPROM for each radio. ? Unforatunely, it's not that improbable to accidentally trigger this when using the CAT interface a lot, possibly with a baud rate setting mismatch"

This fits the bill since I was indeed fooling around with CAT as I was setting up WinLink via a TI-7 via Mic CAT.

Is purchasing programming software and cable likely to lead me to a solution?

Re: FT857D replaced with a 891

Definitely check and reseat your fuse(s)? - or replace them. Had the same problem both in the shack and the truck. Fuses oxidate over time causing obvious problems,

Re: FT857D replaced with a 891

Don,?
This is a classical low voltage symptom. Verify voltage at the rig with key down.

Start with the power supply connection and work you way back to the rig.? Remove in line fuses, don't just look at the fuses, remove and verify no corrosion on either end (emory paper). As for power poles, if these was assembled by soldering the electrical contacts to the feed wire then the tensile strength likely has been destroyed, hence poor contact.? PPs are designed to be crimped by crimper specific to the PP - NOT soldered.?
