Re: remote operation from two different locations
That would be my suggestion. Run both cables, but only plug in the one that you are going to use. Just label them clearly on the radio end. On Tue, Dec 6, 2022 at 7:08 AM Leonard K. Pennock <leonardpennock@...> wrote: For the control head I'm assuming you mean having 2 runs of cable, One --

Re: remote operation from two different locations
For the control head I'm assuming you mean having 2 runs of cable, One into the truck and one into the camper. I would worry about the unterminated line acting as an antenna and causing RFI issues. If possible I would think it would be better to just connect the cable you needed to the body when you wanted to change positions.

Hi All, |
remote operation from two different locations
Hi All,
I'm setting up my 857 in a new vehicle and got to thinking it might be nice to be able to operate from inside the can of the truck AND inside the bed/camper shell of the truck when tucked away for bed at night. I've set up the control head for remote operation before, but not from two places. Is there any reason why simple RJ11 (for mic) and RJ45 splitters (for the control head) wouldn't work? Tim K6TW |

开云体育Looks like Yaesu is no longer “repairing” radios but just replacing circuit boards.? These days I have had much better luck (and less-expensive repairs) ant independent repair shops like hamrepair.com and others.? Glad you got yours fixed! 73, Ronald Jakubowski K2RJ ? |

Well, it appears I got really lucky. I got the new 2SK2973's in and just put them into the rig. I now have transmit power out on all bands. It appears I don't even need to recalibrate anything. The output power at several settings matches the records I
made when I got the rig.
$10 worth of parts and it's back on the air. That sure beats the $650 that Yaesu wanted to replace the main board.

Why is it that "download software" is buried somewhere ? At the bottom of the page,????? Actually more basic tech info is missing or not specifically highlighted . That would be really nice to know operating system (Windoze ?) cat interface - serial? cable or what ? The original briefly mentions "dependencies " . |

The FT857 dead on transmit saga
Back in July I posted that my FT857 emitted a little smoke and stopped transmitting on all bands. I sent it off to Yaesu and they gave me an estimate of about $650 to replace the main board in the unit. I declined and they sent me the radio back. I finally got to looking at it today. I had looked at it back in July, but concentrated on the PA board. This time I looked over the main board. I noticed that Q1006, a transmit pre-driver FET, had a little hole blown in the top of it. The opposing FET in the pair, Q1007, looks intact. These FET's are about $5 apiece and I can easily replace both of these 2SK2973 FET's in an SOT-89 package. I don't know if the drivers that follow it, the 2SK2975's are good or not. Those would be more difficult to replace, as they have to be soldered underneath the chip. Maybe I'll start with the 2SK2973's and see if it fixes the problem. If it does, it's a lot cheaper than $650! 73, Zack W9SZ |
