Re: Intermittent poor reception on VHF

Replaced the filter and didn't solve the problem.

I noticed something: During a repeater transmission with low RX, briefly hitting the PTT restore the full RX signal

Looks like a relay issue, but where to start?

Re: PU5VEN: Your Chinese TCXO ?

My 857 is mobile in some pretty cold prairie days, TXCO seems to be stable enough if I? tune up WWV

They are visually ok, but I'll replace them

Re: Intermittent poor reception on VHF

Did you check your IF filters as I advise you previously?

I added I link to assist you. They can cause several reception problems.?

Today I powered the rig on for testing and the same poor signal was there.

Did the relay cleaning procedure and voala, full signal. Not sure if this actually solved the problem or was another?coincidence.

Edit: Problem still persist

Re: Chinese TCXO Verification ?

An easy way is to tune any AM broadcast station (WWV or your own country's time station) in CW mode. When the TX/BUSY led turns BLUE you are on the center frequency.

Chinese TCXO Verification ?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The previous thread brings up another question. How did/do you go about verifying that the TCXO is working properly and that it is actually better than without? I guess if it is not working properly it would be just like some of the rigs from the old days - chasing each other across the band.

Re: PU5VEN: Your Chinese TCXO ?

I bought one for my Kenwood TS590S and it worked well however, as with so many Chinese knock-offs, quality may very between suppliers and even individual samples.

Re: PU5VEN: Your Chinese TCXO ?

No complaints at all, does it's job very well.?

Mine came sealed and well calibrated from factory, really plug & play.

I have a?TCXO-9 (from Yaesu) unit on another radio and both are very stable, while the crystal ref-unit had to aligned from time to time.

I bought one too and your experience is the same as mine. ?One day I will open the radio.

Well looks like I found the issue. I was a huge frequency drift that was causing the poor signal.

Edit: it's not related to the ref unit, problem still persist

Re: Intermittent poor reception on VHF

I don¡¯t know if it is across the board, model wise, but the same thing works with the FT-450D.

I agree with Tim that this is a topic that is discussed elsewhere and shouldn¡¯t be discussed here. ?This group is here to talk about the Yeasu FT-857 and FT-857D radios. Let¡¯s all stick to the subject radios in our discussion.

Intermittent poor reception on VHF

The antenna is ok on another radios, I even changed the VHF connector by a N type with no success.
