I have used a MFJ 939 with my 857 for years. Get the correct adapter cable and everything will work automatically.??

You missed spam posts across multiple Ham Radio email lists.
That is fortunate for you.

You have posted to groups.io.
I understand that Yahoo is going away, but had not heard bad news about

Re: Antenna rotator

Hello!
Ericssons custom support does not understand the word "support".
But I took a hammer and tried to remove the case with it. It worked! Inside I found a burned selenium rectifier, I replaced it with two diodes and the rotor works now. The strange thing I discovered is the rotor requires 120 V. This was a surprise, I did not expect it from a German company. The transformer is a little hot, it is probably designed for 60 Hz. But it will work intermittently so it is not a problem.
Now I can put my new Yagi on the top of my mast.

While I am not sure of the bylaws of this group, being a new user to the 857d, I find the posts helpful. Perhaps you could just elect not to read his posts.

HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT HAM RADIO PROBLEMS: RADIO-WAVE FREQUENCY AND POWER

Some RF problems occur when RF isn¡¯t going where it¡¯s supposed to go. These problems generally are caused by a bad or missing cable, connector, or switching device (a switch or relay) that needs to be replaced. Try fixing these problems with the following suggestions:

Yaesu FT-857D Relay Cleaning Procedures

The Yaesu FT-857D uses relays for a variety of functions. Sometimes the relays will get buildup between their contacts and the radio can start acting odd, or certain functions stop working. Here is a way to resolve the? problem without losing memories and settings?

FT-857 & ATAS on 2020 Ford Ranger

It was time to say good bye to my 2002 Tacoma SR5. It had a very functional and efficient set up for my 857 and ATAS 120. I am looking for the best way to install the rig on a new Ranger and would be interested in any lessons learned from someone who has already set up in a Ranger.?

Appreciate any thoughts you might care to share.

Re: 857D problem

I have hooked the ground to the same point the battery connects to the chassis and the problem is resolved now.

Re: Access IRLP

Hi Doug,

Alternatively, there are a number of apps for smart phones which will generate the DTMF tones and you can just hold the phone up to the microphone and do it that way.

There also used to be little pocket DTMF generators which were used to control older telephone answering machines which could also be used.

No. You will need either of the following.
MH-36 E8J DTMF Microphone
MH-59 A8J Remote Control Microphone

Most people like the Remote Control mic due to the extra functionality it provides.

Re: 857D problem

Rather than hook the ground to the battery, hook it to the same point the battery connects to the chassis and the issue cannot occur.

It kind of is.
In an automotive situation if the battery negative to chassis connection fails it's possible a *lot* of current will try and find its way home via the radio. It's not a likely situation but is possible. Having said that I only use one fuse on mobile rigs and no fuses at all on my bush radio but simply a 1m lead to a battery.
