I had the same thing happen to mine in the car. Replaced the modular cable from the head to body and it has worked fine since... (didnt?have the crimp tool to redo the ends...) 73 and good luck Art N3GCD On Wed, Sep 11, 2024 at 6:47?PM vk5ztj via <vk5ztj=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: No power
I had a similar issue in my mobile installation, even tried installing my second FT-857d in the vehicle, thought it may have been a power issue, finally tracked it down to a faulty crimp on the factory supplied RJ12 cable to the control head. Re-crimping fixed it. In my case the rig was in a power cycle loop and had to remove power to shut it down. |

High noise floor in receive. Stuck relay or other fault?
Hi all,
?
I have a an 857d that has been exhibiting a couple of strange symptoms.
?
First it seems that perhaps some relay keeps getting stuck, as after some amount of normal operation (primarily cw or digital modes) the unit starts to get and stay hot in receive. It seems to be drawing about 200ma additional when this happens.
?
This also seems to be coupled with an increase in receiver noise on most (but not all) bands. It's most obvious on 17m and 15 m.
?
Power cycling the radio seems frequently get it out of this state but not always, as does running the relay cleaning process.
?
Has anyone else experienced these symptoms before?
?
Thanks,
Greg N1TR?

Re: No power
I? had the same thing happen to two of my ft radios.? Connecting and disconnecting a battery charger or battery maintainer can create an arc necessary to short out the surge suppressor that is across the power input line inside the unit. Replaced the suppressor and things worked as they should. Gauging interest- custom remote head mount for 2019-current RAV4 owners
Hi All,
?
I found this 3d printable file for a custom remote head mount in 2019-Current RAV4s and am planning to modify it for an 857. Is there anyone else out there interested in having one printed for a reasonable price?

Re: FT8CN
Just in case it is helpful the FT-857D has undocumented Cat control access through the microphone port. There are after market and home brew adapters that make using it more convenient by avoiding any need to unplug the microphone in order to use the microphone cat connection.

Re: No power
Edward, Time to locate your schematic diagram. Find the point where power entres the radio, search for a fuse, it will most likely be noted as a 0 (zero) ohm resistor. Now you need to consider WHY the radio stopped working. Good luck with the repair. Don't be afraid to send it to a repair shop. 73 John VE7KKQ On Mon, Sep 9, 2024 at 9:01?AM Edward Soriano via <docward87=[email protected]> wrote: Hi, |
