Re: Hoping for help with an FT-897 (very similar)
I'm actually surprised you got good audio reports at 50-75 before with the MH-59. Everyone I ever seen needed the gain turned down.

Re: Hoping for help with an FT-897 (very similar)
I might be able to get in touch with the guy. I got good signal reports on my Nelson 9:1, and would get reports of being overdriven but legible on my Wolf River Coil. However, after I did the factory reset I got a signal report of "wall of static" from W8FNG. I've worked that guy 4 or 5 times and always had good reports.

开云体育Can you locate the guy who used your radio on Field Day?? I would quiery him.? Did you change any settings?? Did anyone tell you the audio was messed up? etc etc Mike -------- Original message -------- From: dwisby1@... Date: 9/12/22 8:20 AM (GMT-07:00) Subject: Re: [FT-857] Hoping for help with an FT-897 (very similar) I turned the gain settings way down and was able to be understood clearly on the SDR, but my concern is that I was able to run at 50-75 (SSB Mic Gain) before. That's what makes me think something is wonky. Am I way off base here? |

Re: Hoping for help with an FT-897 (very similar)
MH59 is a very hot mic. You need to turn down the mic gain settings. Also since you did a master reset you need to make sure that Menu 59 is set for rmt.

开云体育Are you using the stock hand mic that came with the radio? MH-31? The one with the "TONE" switch on the back? I had a very similar problem a few months ago and I found a bad solder joint on one of the switch connections.? Refloated all the solder joints, and everything in the universe was right again. Fast forward to this week, while on vacation in Florida I got the same mention from two different operators so I had to do something about it. In talking things over with my dad, we figured out that when another operator was using my radio on field day he may have changed a setting somewhere that could be causing the distortion. In order to rectify this, I performed a master reset on the radio thinking I could just tweak my settings to get back to where I had it before. After performing the reset, I have been told that it sounds like a wall of static when I transmit. I have verified this with a WebSDR. I was able to get the signal to where it was intelligible by dropping the gain to 10%, but of course no one can hear me. I have been able to get it to “act right” here and there, but it inevitably starts blasting out static within a minute or so. Is there something damaged somewhere? Or is there some setting that I can’t find.? Any help at all would be much appreciated.? |

Re: Hoping for help with an FT-897 (very similar)
I would look at the mic connection. Try another mic. I think the radio has a modular connector and they get dirty sometimes. You can also call Yaesu. They use to have a support dept there who would talk you through things. Look at the mic first. K3CLT Chuck Tobias
