Re: Loud Squelch Tail

I haven't had a 857 for a few years and didn't use mine as a dual bander, but was thinking that maybe the squelch is set too light. Add a little more and see how that works.

So I will ask if any of you replaced the?Q1063 and why?

Doesn't matter, in FM mode it will always work as Squelch....

Re: Loud Squelch Tail

Sounds like you have it in RF gain mode. Are you sure you have menu 80 set for squelch?

If you can hear the repeater, you will hear a squelchtail, quite often, depends on the repeater.
Your squelch control wont get rid of it. The squelchtail is as strong as the repeater signal.

Re: Not transmitting

Check the power cord for corrosion anywhere, especially inside the fuse holders.? Remove the fuses and clean each contact surface thoroughly.? Do same with coax connections.? Long term mobile installations need attention in these areas now and then.? ?Regards, Phil / K4PO

I would call Yaesu Tech Support and talk to them about it. Its a free service. I would not do any resets. Call Yaesu.

When hooked to your antenna, how high is your swr?
And, if you are on the dummy load, no, it probably wont hit the repeater.

Squelch in FM (VHF) lowers SIGNAL in RX #squelch #signal #fm

SPACE OPQA

Hello everyone,

I reckon after a factory reset to release the TUN/CAT/LINEAR option that was stuck in TUN for some reason, my Squelch started acting strange in FM.

In fact its acting like an signal attenuator, even before it engages SQL, and once engages (silencing the AF) the attenuation is bigger.

I have seen this fix:?

but I am really hoping I can troubleshoot it or fix it in another way. Messing with the hidden menu values indeed changes the SQL behaviour but with the lack of a signal generator I am not sure on how to fix it besides the hand held and dummy load method.

Please advise.

Kind regards,

Luis, CT2FZI

I got mine to work on Linux and Macosx a while back.
As the background noise around my QTH is very high S9++, mostly used for FT8 & CW.

PSK activity is very much lacking around here, AFAICT.
Will have to look into MT63 and other digital modes.

Was a bit fiddly to setup, but works fine =)
