Re: 857D with Digirig/WSJTX or Winlink - worked fine - now recycles power on radio on end of transmit

A quick way to diagnose the problem is to turn your transmit power down temporarily.? I've also seen that FT-857's are much more sensitive to RF around the radio, whether it comes from cables or coming down the coax.? The classic symptom is just what you describe--power cycles off, then on again.

It's possible that something very minor changed on your antenna system to cause this.? It wouldn't even need to be a very noticeable change.? A likely second cause could be a power supply issue, but my bet is on RF around the radio, though.

Good luck.? Been there, done that!

The FT-857 radios are notorious for RFI issues. Make sure you have plenty of ferrites and good grounding. You should probably be using premium cables.

Gaston, the Techprepper on Youtube I believe found some shorter better shielded cables for connecting digirig to an FT-857, if you aren't rolling your own.

Setup was working fine. Then it started failing. With FT8 on WSJTX or Winlink - at some point (I think on end of transmit) the radio would turn off and on again - sometimes repeatedly...

I tried it on two different computers (and RPi and a Windows machine) that had both been recently working (FT8 on 15M was great to Europe from California earlier this week)

"I didn't change a thing" - but perhaps there is some radio setting? or a failure in either the radio or the digirig?

Suspecting RFI - I reset all of the antenna connectors - switched battery - reset all digirig connectors.
