I acquired an FT-857D yesterday.? It got damaged in shipping but I straightened it out.? The radio was shipped with the face plate attached and it looks like the assembly got a side blow against the tuning knob.? It pealed the face plate away from the face plate back (the part that attaches to the body.)? Two screws hold it on and two plastic clips on top.? I got that snapped back in but the tuning knob was sideways and dragging.? I took the knob off the encoder, held the brass nut and bent the encoder shaft straight.? It's working fine now.? I let the seller know the radio was packaged poorly and gave him some adivce.
Got it plugged in last night and used it on 80M this morning.? I'm not intimidated by the menu; seems just fine to me (but all my HF radios are Yaesu.)? I did a factory reset, configured it for my uses, and plan to use it portable.? I'd like to use it mobile by I'm concerned about the screen failures people experience.? Anyway, I like it so far.? Receive isn't as good as my 891 or 991A but it works well enough.? I like that the DNR is not as aggressive as the newer DSP firmwares.??
