Menu #59 should be set to NOR if you are using the stock mic. If you are using the MH-59, that setting should be set to RMT. Not setting #59 to RMT with the MH-59 will keep the additional functions from working.
Also important to remember is if you switch to the MH-59 mic or another mic from the default hand mic, you must go through the ALC alignment procedures in the manual for HF work. This will also help you get your mic gain settings correct with the new mic even if you aren't going to use HF.

Menu Mode 058 [MIC SCAN] should be set to ON
Menu Moce 059 [MIC Sel] should be set to NOR
