The best placement for a mobile antenna (if height clearance is not a problem for you) is the top center of the vehicle roof. It¡¯s worth experimenting with a mag mount, before trying a more permanent mount. Capacitive coupling of the mag base to body should be sufficient. Electrically grounding the antenna base, can cause multiple current paths through the feed line as well vehicle body. The current differential potentially can cause problems.

The second best place is the engine bonnet. If you do use the bonnet, add stainless steel braid ground straps between bonnet and main body.
Actually it is a good idea to add the straps, no matter where you place the antenna. Same for the hatch and exhaust.

Joe,?
Do you already have the AT-140 antenna tuner? If so, what antenna to you have? I have the ATAS 120 in my silverado connected to my FT-891. I had my FT-857 until a couple of months ago. The antenna is mounted to the back edge of the small door behind the drivers door on a Diamond K400 uhf mount. As long as the radio and antenna is well grounded, it will tune from 40 mtrs all the way to 440Mhz. If you already have the AT-140 and the AH-2B antenna, you can mount it on a trailor hitch or a bar mounted to the frame of the CR-V off the drivers side. just raid is colse to the hight of the roof. If you dont have the AT-140 system, you could mount an ATAS 120 on the side of the back hatch with a K400. Either way, make sure the radio and antenna is well grounded.?
