Re: Regions

Presumably the ITU Regions, perhaps reflecting any changes the IARU might make you these?

I noticed in the service menu there is a setting for country (regions).

Does someone know what valid regions are and what the impact on frequencies and other parameters are.

?

The reason for asking. I bought my 857 in the US but live outside of the US. Our ARS repeater shifts are different for one, and also we have some frequency bands that became legal to us in last couple of years. I need to find a best match for my use.

I thought I posted a reply to this thread but it didn't show up.

The fan makes the motor noise, not air flow noise, so maybe it wants replacing. It is only small so has to work too hard perhaps, although I've had similar fans on hard drive caddies in PC's without the problem.

?

What I think it could do with is a thermal sensor to switch on only when it needs to like other equipment I've had. I did consider putting a series resistor inline to slow it down but that my have negative effects.

?

I don't know how old it is, I bought it second hand, the receipts are in the box in the attic, have to have a look next time I'm up there. There isn't a 'D' on it anywhere though, only FT-857 on the front and bottom, serial number is 71790151 and made in Japan by Vertex Standard if that helps.

?

BTW the misses complains of the volume turned up, not the fan noise :)
