Thomas Woolnough (d. South Elmham All Saints & St Nicholas 1800)

Dear listers,

Happy New Year!

Some 590 trees on Ancestry.com indicate that the Thomas Woolnough who married Hannah Fiske at?South Elmham All Saints & St Nicholas on 8 October 1751 was the son of William Woolnough and Mary Branch, baptised in the same parish on 19 February 1727. The problem with this identification is that this Thomas died soon afterwards, and was buried there on 28 February 1727.

We must therefore look elsewhere for Hannah Fiske's husband. He was reportedly 87 when he died, which suggests a DoB c. 1722/23. The only candidate I have found was baptised at Campsea Ashe on 3 March 1722, son of Robert Woolnough and Elizabeth Woodward. Campsea Ashe isn't exactly next door to the South Elmhams, but I have no other suggestion at present.

Can anyone else cast any light?

Best wishes,

Rod Lyall
