Dear Day Garwood THe fact they moved around a lot would make it more difficult. My Johnson side did move more than the Bush family but they were Bedford, London. My maternal side Heath did travel more when they reached South Africa but the biggest problem was the very large families and Afrikaans naming pattern, first son after father, then paternal grandfather, then maternal grandfather, brothers.
